I'm sorry to say it, but this team is not ready for the NCAA's. After we lose to UNI and USU on the road, those select few media writers who have been high on our horse will bail and we will be NIT material.
Too many of you are simply seeing 19-4 and not taking into account the severe road issues this team has. There have been too many instances where major players on our team vanish on the road. Losing to sub .500 teams in Drake and Creighton are simply head scratchers.
Now, we are definitely improved compared to last year, and next season I expect even better outcomes. However, (surprise - surprise) I am picking losses for away games at UNI and USU which will solidfy our status in the NIT unless of course we win the MVC tourney.
I know, this will rub most of you the wrong way but it is what it is. Our SOS has not prepared this team for the big time and vanishing acts on the road kill us.
You're probably right. We should just rest our starters during those games & save ourselves for that 1 NIT home game.
Then again, why should a 5th place Valley team worry about any of this?

If we do lose both of those, not many on here would disagree with you. What was Creighton's record last year, and Illinois St.'s the year before?

The Utah St. game will be the rowdiest venue we've played all year.
I don't know how we get out of there with a win.
Northern Iowa is looking for pay back at their house.
I don't know how we get out of there with a win either.
Having said that.... GO SHOCKS!!!! :goshocks:  :posterwu:
You know, you could look at the Utah State game a couple of ways. First, like some have already stated, the rowdy atmosphere (being something rare in many MVC venues sadly) could really get to us. I tend to think that a rowdy atmosphere migh actually energize us a bit. I can't imagine playing in some places that we play on the road where only a few thousand people attend. Even on TV it sounds like an empty cave and I suspect it really sucks the energy right out of you.
Remember that often times teams come into the Roundhouse charged up and (at least before this season) tend to make shots they normally wouldn't or at least it inspires them to give their best, even if they don't end up winning. I really think this could happen for us at Utah State, and I'm hoping it will give us the spark we need to get off our butts and defend and play with purpose. It could really be a springboard to reaching a peak right at the perfect time--a week or 2 prior to MVC tourney time. At least it would be a lot more of a potential motivator than playing the MVC bottom dwellers like SIU and EU.
I guess I'm just a glass 1/2 full kind of guy on this. Of course it's just as likely we'll go in flat and get our butts handed to us.
Last year's bubble-team records don't matter because the bubble landscape changes from year to year and it's exacerbated this year due to the relative weakness of the big six conferences and the beatings they are doing to one another (ie. North Carolina).
The A10 may get as many or more at-large bids than all non-BCS teams received last year combined. It's a different picture this season.
I tend to think that a rowdy atmosphere migh actually energize us a bit.

Here is a apology before hand. I know there is a "Games of Interest" thread discussing teams we have played and conference teams. However I thought it might be pertinent to do the same, but with the teams around us in Joe Lunardi's Bracketology. The teams and--who they play this week.
We are listed as one of the first four out for this week.
The last four in are...
ODU-- William and Mary 2/3 (WIN 61-2), @VCU 2/6-----1-0 so far Cinci-- @Notre Dame 2/4 (LOSS 83-65, Syracuse 2/7----0-1 so far Uconn-- @ Louisville 2/1 (LOSS 69-82), Depaul 2/6-----0-1 so far Florida-- Alabama 2/4 (WIN 66-65), Miss. St. 2/6---1-0 so far
Us and the other three teams in last four out...
Louisville-- Uconn 2/1 (WINN 82-69), Rutgers 2/6-------1-0 so far Seton Hall-- @Villanova 2/2 (LOSS 71-81), @Pitt 2/6--------0-1 so far Marquette-- Depaul 2/3 (WIN 80-69), @Providence 2/6---1-0 so far Wichita State-- @UNI 2/3 (LOSS 56-59), Indiana State 2/6-------0-1 so far
And the next four out behind us...
North Carolina-- @Virginia Tech 2/4 (LOSS 74-70), @Maryland 2/7---0-1 so far Illinois-- @Iowa 2/3 (WIN 57-49), Mich State 2/6-----1-0 so far Virginia-- NC State 2/3 (WIN 59-47), Wake Forest 2/6----1-0 so far Dayton--- Xavier 2/6
I will try my best to update all the games for each day that there are some. But if anyone would want to help by posting them in the thread that would be nice too!
And yes I know many of you do not think we are in no matter what, but for those of us who want to hope and speculate, those are the teams we are up against.
Alot of basketball to be played!

Updated. Out of the 12 teams on the bubble, 5 have already lost. Not many are as good of a loss as we had to UNI.

When I was listening to the ISU game I though about what a waste of time this all was. Thank god we won, so I can sorta justify it!
Games are updated as of now, Illinois and Mich. St. Is in progress. Good game on ESPN. Go Spartans!
Some teams helped themselves, others hurt, and some stay about the same. I feel like we hurt ourselves a bit with the loss. Even though it was a good one, we will most likely fall in Mondays bracketology.
