  • Bracketology teams

Here is a apology before hand. I know there is a "Games of Interest" thread discussing teams we have played and conference teams. However I thought it might be pertinent to do the same, but with the teams around us in Joe Lunardi's Bracketology. The teams and--who they play this week.

We are listed as one of the first four out for this week.

    The last four in are...

    ODU-- William and Mary 2/3 (WIN 61-2), @VCU 2/6( LOSS 58-70)-----1-1
    Cinci-- @Notre Dame 2/4 (LOSS 83-65, Syracuse 2/7 (LOSS)----0-2
    Uconn-- @ Louisville 2/1 (LOSS 69-82), Depaul 2/6 (WIN 64-57)-----1-1
Florida-- Alabama 2/4 (WIN 66-65), Miss. St. 2/6 (WIN 69-62)---2-0

Us and the other three teams in last four out...

    Louisville-- Uconn 2/1 (WINN 82-69), Rutgers 2/6 (WIN 76-60)----2-0
    Seton Hall-- @Villanova 2/2 (LOSS 71-81), @Pitt 2/6 (LOSS 58-83)-----0-2
    Marquette-- Depaul 2/3 (WIN 80-69), @Providence 2/6 (WIN 82-79)---2-0
    Wichita State-- @UNI 2/3 (LOSS 56-59), Indiana State 2/6 (WIN 76-70)----1-1

And the next four out behind us...

    North Carolina-- @Virginia Tech 2/4 (LOSS 74-70), @Maryland (LOSS 71-92) ---0-2
    Illinois-- @Iowa 2/3 (WIN 57-49), Mich State 2/6 (WIN)-----2-0
Virginia-- NC State 2/3 (WIN 59-47), Wake Forest 2/6 (LOSS 61-64)----1-1
    Dayton--- Xavier 2/6 (WIN 90-65)--- 1-0

I will try my best to update all the games for each day that there are some. But if anyone would want to help by posting them in the thread that would be nice too!

And yes I know many of you do not think we are in no matter what, but for those of us who want to hope and speculate, those are the teams we are up against.

Alot of basketball to be played!

    :wsu_posters:

Six teams lost, three went 0-2.

    See ya next week

Man, the thing I don't like about those lists, is that there are some really 'big name' schools hanging around the bubble. I mean, come on, if it comes down to us or North Carolina, Maryland, Louisville, Seton Hall, Connecticut, etc, and think we can guess who would get left out.

The fact that anyone would take Seton Hall before us disturbs me. Doesn't surprise me, but is disturbing. If it comes down to that, someone should play a game tape from the last time Seton Hall thought they deserved to be in the tournament.

We're up 2 spots from last week. I think if we win both this week, we'll be in the field.

If you currently think the Shockers are adamantly out of the tournament, then you are not paying attention. Losing one ballgame to Drake did not hurt our chances. Finishing February with 1 or even 2 more losses might be enough. I'm not of the opinion that the Shocks have to win out for at-large consideration.

To put things in focus, we need:

          A) a quality BB opponent (hope top 50)
          B) those Valley teams that are close (CU, InSU, BU, IlSU) to find their way into the top 100 rpi
          C) keep cruising at home
          D) steal a couple more on the road
          E) a solid run in the Valley Tourney

it will be huge if all the valley teams can win their BB games.
our conference RPI would raise substantially.
and since we will be facing a few CAA teams, their RPI will lower.
overall, if MVC beats the CAA in the BB games, that will lower the likeliness of 3 or 4 CAA teams, and rise the likeliness of a second MVC team.

              ESPN's joke of the week:

Arizona (12-9) as a potential 12 seed. Complete stretch to get a second Pac10 team in the dance? I understand that they're currently leading the league, but c'mon.

They're the auto-bid. Lunardi doesn't choose who he puts in as the auto-bid from a conference, he automatically gives it to the leader.

they call it a stretch themselves.

Perhaps because they have a SOS of 19 and they beat Pitt.

Yes, I get it. The problem is that there's still another Pac10 team representing the league (Cal). If the Valley is not a 2 bid league, then there's no way the Pac10 is.

So, if Lunardi wants to keep Arizona as the rep, then Cal needs to be left out. And the argument that "teams earn bids, not conferences" is the biggest crock I've ever heard.

Another thing (rant): Connecticut is in because of their rep as a program. Lunardi even said so during his Sportscenter interview.

I wouldn't have too much of a gripe with Cal getting in. 14-7 RPI of 24. The Pac-10 is ahead of The Valley in RPI, btw. So I guess if you really wanted to get down to it, the bracket is probably right. #8 conference has 2 teams in, #9 conference has 1 team in, 1 team just barely out.

The Pac-10 is probably actually behind The Valley in reality. Pac-10 has a good chance at 1 at-large. MVC has a chance at 2.

Well, well. Louisville finally got that marquee win that Lunardi has been hoping for to get them into the dance -- they beat UConn!!

                          ;-)

WSU is going to the "Big Dance"!!!!! :wsu_posters:

As an 11 seed at-large pick!!!! :yahoo:

At least according to Andy Glockner @ www.cnnsi.com
I think the publicity puts us on the radar & provides some attention against any east-coast biased. Now if only the Shocks can take care of business.

I like this bracketology business as it pertains to the Shocks. I hope it becomes habit forming.

I'm sorry to say it, but this team is not ready for the NCAA's. After we lose to UNI and USU on the road, those select few media writers who have been high on our horse will bail and we will be NIT material.

Too many of you are simply seeing 19-4 and not taking into account the severe road issues this team has. There have been too many instances where major players on our team vanish on the road. Losing to sub .500 teams in Drake and Creighton are simply head scratchers.

Now, we are definitely improved compared to last year, and next season I expect even better outcomes. However, (surprise - surprise) I am picking losses for away games at UNI and USU which will solidfy our status in the NIT unless of course we win the MVC tourney.

I know, this will rub most of you the wrong way but it is what it is. Our SOS has not prepared this team for the big time and vanishing acts on the road kill us.
