I don't fault the officials. CU wasn't paying them, the MVC was paying them. The MVC gets to do things like tell officials "points of emphasis" they want enforced and they get to talk to officials individually. There could even be differing "points of emphasis" in different games for various reasons.
Altman has had a very cozy relationship with the MVC for a long time. It seems logical that this year the MVC should "want" WSU to get some breaks and have an at large shot.
If I were betting man, I'd put my money on Dana providing miles of film to the MVC illustrating infractions not called against WSU and begging the MVC to end the advantage given WSU and make those uncalled infractions points of emphasis for the game in Omaha.
I don't think the refs fix games, but I think there is a "good old boy" network that can influence how the games are called to provide an advantage to one team or another. If the refs don't call the game according to the conferences "points of emphasis", they're going to start losing officiating gigs.
