Did you mean some Redbird fans predicted a loss too? :o

Indeed some have, and every ISU fan expresses large concern about this game. We know what we're getting into with the Shox...just hope our team does as well :) Should be a great one tomorrow night.

        Realism is making an entrance.

I really wanna be proven wrong here, but this will be our first real road test of the year in a *big* game to open up the Valley slate. To me, this will determine if we're a contender or a mid-pack right off the back.

Illinois State is really good. I hope our guys are 100x more into this one than in their last game against NDSU.

I think this type of a Valley opener will be a bit too much for our guys. We will definitely have a shot though.

Something to consider when making a prediction for the game vs. Illinois St. = Valley refs.

As long as we are on a winning streak, I've got to go with the Shocks 61-59.

Then again, if we were instead on a losing streak, I would still have to go with the Shocks 61-59.

              Now that's a great point.

Most betting sites give ISU -1. WSU is underdog. Good to me!

With all the score predictions, it's easy to tell that most expect this game to come down to the last few possessions.

If that is the case, then win or lose I like how we play. That means that we handled the road pressure and put ourselves in a position to win the game at the end. If we lose a close one, it will probably still sting (like we let one slip away), but as long as we are competitive every time out in a road contest, then we are bound to steal a few road games along the way.

Win big, and we look like an early favorite.

Lose big, and we go back to the drawing board.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

One thing for sure is the ref will screw this game up...

                        ok.

All I know from watching many, many years of Valley basketball is that once Valley play begins (and the players start banging), the refs tend to give a really, really quick whistle. They sure don't help the flow of the game, and therefore affect the teams chances of scoring in the 80s.

You're right. I don't have any stats or research to back it up, just my own two eyes. It's at times very painful to watch (but I love it).

If, you thought, that I was insinuating that the officials favor one team over another, then you were mistaken. That was not my point. I was merely suggesting that this will probably be a low scoring affair.

                          Hello Shocker Friends

It's game day (finally!!) and I can't wait to make the 1.5 hour drive south on I-55 to my alma mater and my favorite basketball venue in the world, Redbird Arena.

The Birds got good news on the achilles injury to Austin Hill. He sat out the Grambling game and it seemed to do him a lot of good. He returned to practice Saturday and is ready to go tonight. He is a very important piece to the Bird puzzle.

I am looking forward to the game but as I've said I have a ton of respect for the Shockers. I am hopeful being at home the Birds can pull it out. In order to do so the preseason POY will have to perform like the in-season POY. OE seems to be driven to take the Birds to the NCAA's in this his senior year. Winning tonight and leading the team would be a good place to start.

I am very interested to see how the 1st year players Carmichael, Hill, Clark, Lewis, Johnson adapt on the fly in their 1st Valley game.

Here's to a great, injury-free game between my favorite and 2nd favorite Valley program. To those making the trip.......drive safe and enjoy yourselves.

                          Happy New Year!!!!!

                              Ghost of Rick Lamb:
I'm sure that if the Redbirds finish 16-2 and lose the title game in the MVC tourney, ISU would get an at-large bid. (Of course, I can't imagine who I would like to see finish 18-0 and win the MVC tourney. :D )
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
