If not for our stifling defense, they could have been a much bigger threat. To have our defense working at this high of a level, this early in the season, is very reassuring when dreaming of big things THIS year.
Spot on. All the credit in the world needs to go to Aaron and Gabe for limiting a 17 point per game scorer to 1 point on the night. Aaron has been a beast all year on defense and you can make teams look awfully ordinary when you completely shut down their best offensive weapon, especially when one guy can do it rather than relying on double teams.

Lineup I want to see on the floor sometime this year.

      Hannah
      Murry
      Blair/Ellis
      Durley
      Stutz

I don't think we have seen this one yet, but I want to see how Blair and Ellis could do at the three.

I don't think you'd want to see Blair at the 3. Ellis...I can see that. Dude is quick. Blair is a 4/5, and he's not a finesse 4/5.

I loved Ellis' steal on an inbounds play last night. It was like "hey, guys, look what I got...uh, guys, I took it way from 2 guys and now they're both on me. HELP!!"

I've made a similar suggestion about having JT and Garrett on the floor at the same time, but I think the popular opinion is that they're both too soft on their man defense to have on the floor at the same time. I'd like to think that's changing, especially in Garrett's case.

I'd love to see Aaron put in to shut down a particularly annoying 3.

That was great! Love the way you put that.

Thanks to my good friend RussDaBus, we had tickets right in front of the scoreboard by the shox bench. We picked up on a little bit of what was going on with GS... Keep in mind it was pretty loud in the chuck (for some reason) so we might have misheard...

He came to the bench and said he was hurt - blood was gushing out of his mouth near his lip. He looked like he was in a lot of pain. Apparently he must have bit his lip / inside of his mouth. He then went to the locker room and a trainer came out and mentioned that he had a flap of skin haning loose and might need stitches.

Fortunately it seems like he didn't as he came back out a few minutes later. As soon as he sat down, HCGM walked up to him and asked if he was ready to go back into the game... of course he was! :good:

Some bloody lips and some uncalled fouls tend to make players a little tougher, more assertive, and more protective of their "space". Garrett has shown in some pickup games that he can develop some attitude - he just needed a reason to get mad during games and channel that anger in the right directions (through the hoop).

Garrett may be ready for Valley play by the time it starts. He's getting quite an education in getting fouled with no calls.

HCGM mentioned earlier in the year that it is highly unlikely that you will see these types of lineups. Per HCGM, the team has over 80 offensive sets and it is simply too difficult for the players to play at two positions (he was referring to the front line in particular). Of course you should never say never, but that was HCGM's thinking....

                    I'm with you, Joco.

The offense is very complicated, and we can see that it takes some time to learn. I would figure that it takes about a year to get completely down, as now we can see the guys who have been in the system for a year look way more comfortable. I would think it possible that JT might get some time at the 4 next year, with EO coming in, but it would take a long time to learn the sets, and be as comfortable with them as he is now.

We've got depth for 4 guys in the post, and even though Ellis would be scary on the wing, I think we can just as easily put Murry, Kyles, or Hatch on almost any 3 we see and be able to shut them down. Unless he's some 6'8" athletic freak who makes three pointers. But we probably won't see too many of those on the opposing bench (as they will probably be playing the 4 spot, and Ellis will be on him anyway).
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

It's great if you can get a 7 footer with a little attitude!

Well I know I certainly was getting pissed by the no calls and I wasn't the one being brutalized. There was one in the first half that Stutz was bent at the waist ready to go up and a TS player jumped and then put his hand on Stutz' back to keep from flying onto him which altered Stutz shot and there was no call. I mean he looked like he was going to ride him like a horse.

I wish there would've been more no calls. It seems like there were whistles every 15 seconds.
