I missed all but the last few minutes. Any other must know stuff?? Durley being left out of the group in the Eagle article obviously wasn't an oversight. I was afraid of that.

We are under the impression that Clemente has a starting spot locked up. I was assuming at PF. With Mantas going to four, do we think he will be coming off the bench? I really thought he would be a starter. Or do we think there is a chance Clemente would be the starting center??

That was an intersting show. Coach Marshall doesn't do coach speak. You ask him a question he gives you an answer. Durley, Mekel, telling the tourney not to schedule WSU and Winthrop in the same bracket, calling KU, KSU, OU, OSU and telling us they don't want to do home and home games and how it's now on them. All good stuff and real information that the fans deserve. Kudos to the Coach.

Re: Durley, the one thing HCGM has consistently said from the day his hiring was announced is that you either play very hard or you don't play.

Hopefully, J.T. will get it sooner than later, as the young man definitely has some upside.

Shocker 22 seems to like to be contrary with the coach. He said twice that Ellis was 6'9. Later when Kennedy referred to Mantas as being 6'8, Marshall corrected him and said that Griskenas was only 6"7. How Go Shockers gets its figures and measurements, I don't know but Marshall seemed to be stating it the way he sees it.

I didn't interpret the "everybody moves up a position" with Butler's situation quite the way some are.

Here's what I think I thought I heard (including what I read into it:

Thomasson starts at 5. Clemente is the likely backup.

Clemente starts at 4. With the loss of Butler, Griskenas is the likely backup.

Note: Marshall said Ellis is a 3. Also said Ellis is not a 4, but he may have to teach Ellis to play 4 at some time.

Griskenas starts at 3. Ellis is the likely backup. If Griskenas moves to 4 Cooz may move to 3.

Cooz starts at 2. When Cooz moves to 3, Mekel moves to 2.

Braeuer starts at 1. Mekel is the likely backup, but if Mekel is in the game because of position rotations, then Preadon is the backup.

I thought Marshall was talking about substitution patterns and turning more players into multi-position players due to Butler's injury.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I agree with your interpretation of what Coach Marshall said, except for one thing. The way Coach talks about Gal, I think he is tending toward starting Gal rather than Matt at point guard.

Having listened to Gregg many times now, here is what I "heard".

                            JT - sack up now.

We have 7 men to rely on right now. Those 7 are PJ, Phil, Mantas, Ramon, Gal, Matt and Aaron.

Wendell we can go to if needed, JT if we have to which sucks because he is better than that.

PJ, Matt and Phil are great kids but need to be more vocal leaders. See Mr Clemente.

We need a 7' Christmas present because we expect to win today.

He still is in shock with the lack of conditioning the kids were in under the former leadership.

                            Let's see what else...........

Marshall gave Ellis more run than is reflected here.

Said Ellis has the handles to play the 3. Said he'd never coached a 6'9" 3 before, so he was going to have to learn how to do that. Ellis has the shooting range to play the 3. Makes some bad shot selections because he takes contested shots, but...

...Ellis is 6'9" with about 2' of elevation on his jumper. Releases his shot from about 9-1/2 feet, so Ellis probably doesn't realize or sense any pressure because he shoots from so high.

Kennedy asked how Ellis might do guarding a 6'3" or 6'4" guy who might be pretty quick. Marshall said he'd have to see how that worked out.

Couple of other things I'm remembering:

WSU will rebound at the rim, not above the rim. Marshall is coaching establishing space to maximize rebounding opportunities. Said there was a completely different approach to rebounding if you had guys grabbing the ball at 11 or 12'. I believe he mentioned WSU would have that type of rebounders in the future.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

Agree on the Ellis part Aargh.

I think we all have at least ONE idea why HCGM was so successful at Winthrop.
