Attendance listed as 10,166, but there were only about 6,000 there at the 2:00 minute mark of the 2nd half.

What was more important than sticking it out til the end of the game?

Miller was offered scholarships by three big schools. I remember Oklahoma, maybe T A&M, and not sure which school was the third.

Some people just don't get it....

I never called Paul fifi, but I thought we would be better off letting Hatch move on. I've changed my tune on that and I expect I won't look back.

Stutz is one game into his sophomore season. Look at how far Ellis has come since then. Here's his line against Florida A and M:

Player Name FG-FGA FG-FGA FT-FTA OF DE TOT PF TP A TO BLK S MIN

          00 Ellis, Aaron........ 0-5 0-3 0-0 2 4 6 4 0 1 1 0 0 16

If you go back 8 or so years, Turgeon said that Paul Miller would be the cornerstone of the Shocker program for four years. He chose WSU over Oklahoma. This is very similar story line to what we've seen with Stutz so far.

I saw Toure pull up and grab the back of his thigh with about 1:30 to go and limp over to the bench. Has anyone heard anything about him. I was hoping it was a cramp and not a hammy.

By the way the Chiefs played in Okland so the game started at 3:00. (DVR)

Probably a cramp...coach said that there was 1 player with a hurt ankle (Williams) and a couple that had cramps. Pretty sure Hatch was 1 with cramping issues and maybe Toure also.

Glad to hear it...not much recovery time with 4 games in 9 days.
We need everybody health. I think Gabe Blair is just getting over the flu.

Everyone who is complaining about Stutz after his first game of his sophomore year are demonstrating that they lack ANY knowledge the development curve for big men.

I'd bet that there are very few here who would be willing to admit that they we the ones calling Paul "Fifi", but I'd also bet that those people who said it are the same ones who are down on Stutz right now.
FYI, I'd be a little careful with that sort of characterization, first because it's not true. I'm calling Garrett "FiFi" now, because that's how's he's playing. He's got skills, he's definitely improved from last year, and he's in the process of becoming a really good big man, but he's still getting pushed around, and until he "mans up," he's "Fifi." Is he an asset to this team? Absolutely! He's no more of a defensive liability than anybody else on the team at this point, he's got fantastic hands, and he's learning to use his height more effectively. Paul was "Fifi" for exactly the same reasons, not because he was a liability, but because he hadn't decided to be a man down there yet. Paul was Valley POtY. I expect Garrett will be in those discussions in two years if he progresses at this rate.

And second, one of the other people who called Paul "Fifi," but who also had an understanding of the development process, is our new boss. ;-)

I had a good vantage point of the trainer stretching Murray's calf. I don't know anything other than what I saw but I'd imagine it was cramps from mild dehydration.

What was the deal with all the cramping by both teams. Is this uncommon for this time of the season? I will agree with DU in that TM made a beeline for the baseline and layed on his stomach while the trainer was stretching his thigh/calf.

Hatter - I never called Miller Fifi, but I did call him soft, all the way through his junior year. Why, because he was. Stutz has shown glimpes of what he can do, much of that in the earlier part of his freshman year. Given his skills, I don't think it should take until his senior year to blossom, nor do I think he shoud be an all-Valley player this year.

Garrett got more than a couple of ear-fulls from HCGM tonight.

If a self-proclaimed lazy person like JT, who has adapted to being an under-sized center, can make the progress he made during his sophmore year, and now to junior year, then Garrett can certainly do the same this year and to the next. The season's early, but I'll still call it like I see it.

The thing that you don't get is that players physically and mentally mature at the own rate. It took Durley to the end of his third year to get it. Of course Marshall isn't going to give up on anyone that he thinks has the potential to be a very good basketball player. He didn't give up on Durley and he won't give up on Stutz. While Marshall knows his players and how each one responds and knows how to push their buttons to make them better(along with his assistants they criticize and then build up), you aren't going to make them better by calling them names (although it probably helps you deal with your issues). But go ahead and call them names (calling it as you see it).

shockmoster - Calling a player soft is not calling him names. No more so than saying a player is slow, has bad hands, or can't shoot FT. Just where did I call him a "name". You might want to read a post a little more careful before YOU start saying someone has issues.

And by no means am I giving up on Garrett. I like Stutz and believe he will do well. I'm only hoping sooner rather than later.

Do college players really mature at different rates?!?! Well blow me down!
