You kind of expect sloppy this time of year especally in a blow-out game. We were sharp for the most part when we needed to be.
FDU was not good.
IMHO, we've made dramatic improvements in every area. You can tell induvidually that they have worked very hard. There is obviously room for improvement but we don't have any players that you say "oh no, (you insert the name) is coming in.
We are deep and atheletic and I'm excited !!!! :wsu_posters:
Lots of positives....plenty to work on. Game was never in doubt and we worked on building some more depth.
2 more wins till Clevin is back!
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
Ellis, Durley, Hatch, Murry and Kyles all looked really good and had good games. I really like the improvement shown by Ellis. He's so long and really gets in there and mixes it up. Kyles will also surprise some people. Durley could be a 1st teamer this year. I'd like to see Blair get in there more with Durley or Ellis. Seems like most of the time he had to play with Stutz and wasn't very effective. Stutz is slow and weak still. Loses the ball a lot. It's nice having him in there in spurts but he's not going to be a key figure this year in my opinion. Overall I thought the team started getting lazy midway through the 2nd half like they were going to coast on to an easy win. FD started getting easy buckets and almost got back i the game. Had this been an MVC game, I don't think we would have let down like that.
This is the first time I have seen the Shockers this year:
Murry looks good. He played very much like last year, but is a little stronger. He did not have the expected arc on his shot.
Durley was a beast! He could take over offensively any time he wanted. I wasn't impressed with his shot selection outside of 8 foot, but he sure drilled em. Didn't notice him on Defense, but no real lapses.
Hatch looked a little Jason Perezish. Very confident and headsy as you would expect. He has a strong body and uses it well. Shot looked good. He needs to hit his freethrows.
Ellis was impressive to me. He looked good offensively and totally let the offense come to him. Defensively he was too much for FDU. Played hard and played with heart. I like long athletes like that who aren't afraid to do the dirty work.
Kyles looked good shooting and had a nice backdoor pass to KM for an easy layup. He was able to drive to the basket at will. He was out of control at times, something I never felt with the four starters mentioned above.
Williams was impressive as a true freshman. Had a nice pull up jumper and a high arcing 3. He was a little slow on D, but played within his game and will be a joy to watch. I think he sprained his ankle at the end of the first half.
Blair was long and athletic, but tried to do too much to quick. He had a nice dunk off a feed from one of the 6-4 guards. Some lapses on offense and defense, but nice off the bench.
Stutz needs to be stronger and a step quicker. Wasn't strong with the ball at all times. He uses his height well.
KM got significant 2nd half minutes. He's long and quick. He made some lazy passes, and the FDU PG drove past him a couple times, but he was effective as a pg. You can see that his athleticism is going to make him special if he can harness it correctly. He may do well as a point forward.
We need to work on team defense, press break, zone offense, and free throws.
This team is long and athletic. It was fun to watch KM, TM, DK, GB, and AE all play together, but they made some stupid passes and played horrible TEAM defense. Still a fun line-up.
Is it just me or has stutz not really progressed at all. He is still extremely slow(i.e. we don't push the ball well when he is in.), he is getting out rebounded, brings the ball down when he is freakin 7ft tall, and he has no aggression at all. When he picked up his 5th foul it wasn't even him the dude fell trying to get the call and did so on great acting. I'm really not trying to bad mouth him but can you really say he is helping this team at this point. I loved when we had the ATHLETIC bigs in and we were running up and down the floor, we were scoring points and playing decent defense. To me it just looked like alot more energy out there when he wasn't in. Again im not trying to be mean but he needs to get mean and play hard. Maybe this could be bulletin board material for him. i just don't know am i by myself on this one
You guys may be baiting me but I thought Stutz looked good. Several rebounds, some buckets, creates shooting problems for other team especially around the bucket. Was in foul trouble but I thought that he got called for some cheap ones.
He dropped a couple in without bringing the ball down, hung on to the ball while he was getting hacked.
You got be kidding me right. If there is a replay ever of this game watch it again and just watch stutz. Matter of fact watch marshall on the side lines he is getting totally hacked at stutz. he needs someone to hit him in the mouth and let him get mad. if he dont improve he will be a minute filler for 2 more years. sorry but true.

Unfortunately, it's not just you. There seem to be WAY too many here whose expectations for Stutz are out of line. We got 7 pt and 3 rebounds in 11 minutes from our backup center. Yes, he turned the ball over and fouled too much, but he is also only a sophomore. I think he has progressed from last year. If you are expecting a kid who barely saw the floor down the stretch last year to become more than a decent backup, the problem lies more in your expectations than his performance.
Stutz has definitely improved since last year. He's about where I was expecting this year.
We got us some guards.
I think part of the reason the pace slowed and the team looked sluggish some times was that Marshall played everybody - a lot. There was a lot of looking at combinations and a lot of experience given to players who might not have seen as many minutes if the game had been more competitive.
I thought the score difference could have been 30 or maybe 40 if Marshall had gone for on-floor combinations to maximize the margin of the win.
All 5 starters in double figures is sa-weeet!
I hope Blair is still knocking off some rust.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
