Nothing to base it on, but one good reason not to red-shirt when you don't have to is if a player is injury prone or plays an injury prone position. If you have already red-shirted just for "growth" reasons then you are screwed if he pulls a hammy or has a nasty ankle sprain in a subsequent season.
Centers seem to take a lot of abuse -- that's just my take as an observer -- I don't know anything about the position. But I'd rather have a player play for four years with a so-so bench year (at least he got experience as a freshman), then only have a player get to play three because I outsmarted myself and thought I could get some growth out of him, just to have a lame duck his junior or senior year.
I know that's not always the best strategy (you may have a really stacked team one year and it just makes sense to sit a player and take the risk), but it's something to consider.Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

This is from forevershockerfan in the KWCH thread:
Stutz will come in weighing about 250+ it appears with stronger legs so he can't be pushed around inside. I like his shooting touch.
That's not much to go on, but it supports fsf's expectation that Stutz wll staart the season at 250+, so I'm going with that.
Stutz weight last year was 235 and I'm confident he was below that by the end of the season. So, fsf is proposing and I'm saying it's possible that Stutz gains 20 - 25 pounds in the 7 months from April through October. That's 3-4 pounds a month. Stutz has the places to put it and that's a functional weight gain amount for a 7', 19-yea-old athlete.
If Stutz can start the season at 250 - 255, then it looks like he will have the 20 pounds of muscle he needed last year. It's still easier to push around 7', 250 (Stutz) than to push around 6'10", 250 (Miller). Those 2" have a leverage difference.
If Stutz can open this season at 250 or more, he could be dangerous this year. Look at shooting touch, moves, shooting range and compare those to Miller. There are some differences, but there are a lot of similarities.
I think Stutz can and will end up as a slightly larger version of Paul Miller. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I dont mean to be a critique but 5 lbs of muscle is very hard to achieve by a natural bodybuilder in 1 yrs time much less 20. Now if hes still growing which at 19 is possible he may add 20 lbs but it wont all be muscle.I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

From what I've heard, they expect him to hit about 260 before practices begin and end up playing around 250 this year.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

I,m alittle concerned that GS has not been around last several of the evening pick up games......I hope he has not been sick. He has missed a chance to play against Paul Miller and Kyle Wilson. Both of them look really good. He won't get to play aginst to many player of their ability in the up coming season.
