It is easy to pick CU's success in the MVC regular season/tourney, SIUs record in the NCAA compared to other MVC schools, but there is not much to look at in out of conference. WSU has had the most games against named teams during that time then any others. I was more concerned about who we played than how the game turned out when I listed them. But I agree that the MSU game was not the greatest one to list. I guess over the last 10 years there are others that we could list, Providence for example.
Since the year 2000, which Valley team has the highest strength of schedule? Can anybody figure that out? That would be pretty interesting.

      Please stop embarrassing the fanbase.

Nobody wants to be like sCUm. We actually want to win in the NCAA Tournament, not just show up and look pretty.
      Deuces Valley.
      ... No really, deuces.

The problem with that is a team can have a higher SOS by playing a bunch of teams around the 100 RPI range than the team that plays a couple of teams with top 25 RPIs then playing teams with +300 RPIs. Which was what we had when we played Illinois. We had to play those two +300 RPI teams to be in the tournament with Illinois. I am interested in who has played the most top 50 RPI teams.

According to kenpom we have played the following:

            2004
            Lost 31 Boston College
            Won 54 Manhattan
            Lost 65 K State

            2005
            Won 50 Providence

            2006
            Lost 11 Illinois
            Lost 23 George Mason
            Lost 33 Michigan State
            Won 71 Providence

            2007
            W 48 LSU
            W 37 Syracuse
            L 27 USC

            2008
            L 42 Baylor
            W 67 UAB

            2009
            L 8 Michigan State
            L 27 Georgetown
            W 59 Siena
            W 60 Cleveland State

I understand your sentiment SF, but you have to GET to the Dance before you can PLAY in the Dance. Getting there is the priority. I agree that winning the Valley Tournament gets you there. Just winning the Conference may not if the Valley is down (lower RPI like this past year) and you have no wins against Top 50 teams. But you have to win and a .500 is not good enough. So a good win/loss percentage in the confernece is an improvement, but it is not something we should be willing to "settle" for.

I personally don't want the Shocks to be compared to CU either, but you can't deny they manage to at least GET to the Dance most years. They've never done anything with the chance, but that's another topic entirely.

shox21 articulated the point I was trying to make ..do well during the season, get there, and anything can happen...I am not ready to scoff at teams that have had more success than we have...but I think we are on the right path to surpass them

I bet CU is one of the most requested opponents in the NCAA tourney.

No, I'm not denying that they're one of the best one-and-done programs in the country. No doubt. The Kansas City Chiefs would be proud.

Which is exactly why any comparison made with that program is a flat-out joke.

Shorter term, I expect to see the Shox look a little like Dayton did this year. They were very athletic, were high pressure on D, and they ran out lots of fresh bodies.

They had 12 guys average 8 minutes per game or more.

                            27-8

                            1 Senior

                            Had +4.6 rebounding margin

                            6.5 steals/game

I like the makeup of the team Marshall is putting together. He has a bunch of pieces he can use interchangeably depending on the opponent and situation. I can see a lot of players getting a lot of playing time.
