Are you kidding, dregn? Jamaar was a lot of great things but great shooter he was not. If he had developed even a 15 ft jumper with any accuracy, he would be in the NBA> I know he hit that 3 pointer in our S Florida NIT game to send us into overtime....But that definitley was NOT his game....And he became a little more inconsistant with his shot his senior year.

Overtime, the problem is with the grammar of your original post.

and perhaps not a great shooter like those two...
This phrase is the problem. When you say "like those two" it is unclear whether that modifies Kenny or "great shooter".

If it modifies Kenny (which is what you were saying as is evident by your response to Dregn) it would mean that Kenny is like Jamar and PJ in that he is not a great shooter.

If it modifiers "great shooter" it would mean that Kenny is not a great shooter like those two were.

I think everyone is on the same page in terms of basketball evaluation, just not in terms of grammar interpretation.

Well I just realized that in my post I wrote "If it modifiers," so I'm hardly perfect with my internet grammar. I didn't really say anything to be picky rather to point out that I thought that both you and Dregn were actually on the same page, even though neither of you realized it.

I guess we all have our heads in the air to expect high rated reruits, but this last recruit seems puzzling to me. Maybe he is the guy that just fits the team perfect and will really be a great piece of the puzzle.

Sorry, I am just still looking for that X-Man that Gene seemed to be able to go out and find. Before anybody wants to beat me up, I realize that X was not a high rated recruit out of So. Carolina, but he had some major schools wanting him.

Anyway, I do love Coach Marshall and respect the hell out of what he has done here to turn things around. Sorry, I just don't want to be another Winthrop. I want to get back to being a top ten team. If I'm dreaming then let me dream, we did it before and we should be able to do it again.
                Hmmm, where to start.

I think everyone here, save KCShox, would like to be a "top 10" program. If memory serves me correctly, and if I gauge your age correctly (and I'm fairly certain I do) we've been a top 10 team for about 3 weeks in your lifetime. While an admirable goal, it's neither realistic nor attainable, at least for any length of time. I feel certain you have no idea what it really takes to be a top 10 program. We talk about Gonzaga and what they have done is remarkable, and they aren't a top 10 program. I think also you'll find that Memphis' run is about to come to a screeching halt.

I don't know how you can question any recruit at this time. I don't think there is anyone he has brought in that's been a bust so far, in terms of a needed skill set. There aren't any Matt Clarks, Zach Greens, Kurt Bangles, Zach Simmons, Ryan Bradleys, Chris Browns, Arbry Butlers or frankly even considering their successes elsewhere, Adam Libertys or Calvin Walls.

I realize that a couple of those players were setback with injuries....hardly the fault of anyone, but let's not kid ourselves. Perhaps in a year or 2 we can change our minds....but for now decisions look pretty solid to me.

There are questions, for sure. But for now, the future looks to be in very good hands and about as strong as we can imagine.

                  WuDrWu,

No harm done. We are probably closer to same age then you want to think.

Not sure why my original post was taken wrong, but to clarify..

I REALLY believe CM is doing exactly what he KNOWS he is doing to lead us back to MVC Champs and yearly NCAA participants.

I WASN'T complaining, just asking the board what they thought about taking on basically non-rated recruits. This does NOT include Kenny M. or even Jerome H. as they were rated.

My point was trying to be, I have all the trust in the world that CM is a lot smarter than me, but just was thinking are we settling for players instead of being able to get them.

Everyone, it was just a question to get opinions, it was never intended as a down on CM take.

There's really only one recruit coming in where that really fits. And that would be Richardson who came out of nowhere.

I like what I've heard about the kid but he's the one that I take more of a wait and see approach with. The other three freshmen have excited me from Day1. I've seen 2 of the 3 play. Good times!

This may have already been stated, But are both Richardson and Williams unrated ie no stars after their name?..If so then the fact they are late signers with no big schools offered has to be reason for caution in evaluating them before they get here...I hope they are great but I've got to wait and see with these guys

Don't put too much stock in Scout or Rivals when there is information from the player and/or his HS coach.

Richardson was considering Tulane and UTEP - roughly comparable with WSU. Not only is he unrated, he isn't even listed. The sites missed him.

Williams had an offer and visit scheduled for Washington State. Rivals rated him 2 stars. Iowa was interested, as well.

Who would you rather have had in fairly recent history?

Randy Burns - 0 stars and only 1 D1 offer?
                            Arbry Butler - 3 stars?
                            Denzell Bowles - 4 stars?

There is a reason that college coaches make a lot more money than guys who evaluate talent for rating services. Guys at the rating services don't get fired if they miss on the evaluation of a player.

I think with time HCGM can develop the Shockers into a Gonzaga quality team. The good news is with the incoming players and the players already here, he now has the base to start developing the type of team Shocker fans want to see.

Interesting you mention Gonzaga. When we went to the Old Spice tournament my wife and I had a chance to see them up close. They were big and physical looking. I would like to see WSU emulate the schedule they play. They play big name schools (usually on the road) but always on prime time national broadcasts. This type of schedule serves them well since their conference does not help their rpi.
