Not so much an admirer......I was in St Louis as I have been every year. Just realistic. CU has not done well in the NCAA Tourney but they have dominated, along with SIU, in the Valley. What I was really trying to say was if they can do that we should be able to do at least as well......Its just a little early to vault us into the top 30...But I would love to see it

Anyone who would be happy with CU's "Success" is blind. They haven't done a damn thing on the national level. Sure they are successful in the MVC, but who really cares about that outside of the MVC? If you want people to remember who you are, you need to beat a #1 or #2 seed and advance to the Sweet 16 or further.
To the person who said something about being satisfied with Winthrop level of success...not sure where you're coming from with that comment. Just because he coached there that means we want their level of success? That's like saying KU wanted Oral Roberts level of success when they hired Self...

Marshall has higher expectations than CU or Winthrop. He came here because we can be better than that and he sees it.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Otherwise, ditto.

I don't know for sure what "being Winthrop" means. If it means winning the league and going to the NCAA's 7 years out of 9, then I guess I'd take "being Winthrop".
If Marshall can take a bunch of guys who've never played together, have virtually no D1 experience on the entire team, and start league play at 0-6...
...then turn that group of players into a team that finishes tied for 5th in the league and has the most home wins in over 20 years...
...then I think he's on the road to somewhere with WSU. I think "being a Marshall team" is probably a better description then "being Winthrop".The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I loved Matt Clark but he couldn't play on any other team anywhere. We are passed that type of player. We are bad right now and look who we have landed. Imagine what we will get when we start clicking. No worries with his players. I also have the most respect for MT. But Marshall has allready out recruited him x 2. Look out Valley!!! :yahoo:" If you build it they will come ", Koch Arena

My immediate expectations include to be among the top 3 in the league each year, and to go to the Big Dance at least once every 4 years.
I think these are reasonable for our program. Anything more than that is just gravy. Recruiting is a big factor in this, and it looks like HCGM is doing okay in that area so far. But, we won't know for sure until we see the new guys play, and how well they gell as a team.
I think the coach has found out that the MVC is more physical, and tougher to dominate than the Big South.
One sign for me will be when we start to get some road wins.

We should remind ourselfs that we have been to the NCAA Tourney about ONCE in the last 20 years....Winning the Valley Championship (again once in last 20 years) or the Tourney in St Louis gets us there...Then anything can happen. So I know it drives us Shockers crazy to compare to CU but they have gotten to the dance alot more than us.....By winning in their league..So to say that winning the MVC is not IMP is foolish....That is how you get to the Dance

In the MVC i wouldn't mind having CU success. I wouldn't mind having 9 regular season/MVC tourney champions in the last 10 years.
In out of conference success I would like to see us having WSU success during the last couple of years of the Turgeon era. Beating teams/competing with teams that have National Championship expectations (LSU, Illinois, Michigan State, Syracuse).

I was trying to think over the last 10 years who in the MVC has had the most success.
It is easy to pick CU's success in the MVC regular season/tourney, SIUs record in the NCAA compared to other MVC schools, but there is not much to look at in out of conference. WSU has had the most games against named teams during that time then any others. I was more concerned about who we played than how the game turned out when I listed them. But I agree that the MSU game was not the greatest one to list. I guess over the last 10 years there are others that we could list, Providence for example.
