After this game it'll be interesting to see who the Shox play. I bet our RPI will be right around 160 and we can probably expect to play Loyola or Iona. Ohio (Jim Schaus) or Akron would be nice though. Hopefully the BB committee realizes WSU is good at home and sends us a tough team.

I'd guess Pacific. They're the closest in numbers on both. But I don't care either. This is something that should probably go away.

I think (at least I hope) you can cross Gardner-Webb and Misery State off the list. Dang! We've got a possibility of getting a BracketBuster opponent that we paid to come here as a guarantee game. That's suckage.

Morehead State is probably the best, considering we have a return game next year. The list of possible opponents looks like a list of potential buy games for next year's schedule. BracketBusters gives us the opportunity to go play a free game on their court.

                I'm with ShockerFever:
Unless you're in the top 2 of the Valley, you're not ever gonna get excited for this game.

I think it has run its course. Time to flush.
If you're top 2 (maybe 3 ), you get a decent home-and-away setup. Of course, it's an elimination game for the NCAA's 2 years in a row. It does solve some scheduling problems.

In WSU's situation, it adds a home-and away against teams that we could pay to come play here on a one-time basis. For an improving team that's usually an RPI killer in the return game.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I know I'm in the minority but I like the Bracketbuster. We get into conference play and you see the same teams over and over, its nice to get a little change of pace late in the season.

Has anyone ever thought that this season our beloved Shocks could be the "buster" rather than the "bustee". I sincerely hope this is the case. Think of it as another situation to show off "The Roundhouse", sneak a quality win, and possibly do so on national tele! :good:

The bracket buster is still something we should be able to get "up" for. It is a non-conference opponent - likely a team of comparable ability. We aren't the best right now, so we will not be playing the best. We should not be getting so smug to think we are better than this game.

It is still Shocker basketball, and it should still sell out. We still need a WIN no matter the opponent. :wsu_posters:

I could see us getting Iona or Pacific. Doubt that we will get someone rated that much higher than us.

Iona lost to Siena, 68 to 69 on 1/26/09.

When they do the pairing for this thing are they just looking at RPI?

For example Illinois St. is listed higher then Northern Iowa but

                          1. Northern Iowa won the matchup between the two
                          2. Northern Iowa leads Illinois state by three games in the MVC.

they also look at how teams are doing right now. I remember a few years ago a valley team thinking they got snubbed by facing a team with what looked like a bad record/ bad rpi but that team was doing great in conference and it made for a good matchup.

                            But really, who knows.

That is actually good for WSU since we have won 4 straight home games and 4 of our last 5. Maybe we could make a case for the U.
