It is hard to blame the refs when you shoot 23 FT's...and only make 11. The refs did there part...we didn't do ours.

Toure did play good tonight which was a plus. The 1st half, we had a nice lead (around 9 points) and then about 8-9 minutes of a scoring drought. Yikes--that hurt. Then the lucky basket at the end of the half by the roos did not help our cause. We did get some nice steals toward the last part of the game. However, we just did not get near enough defensive stops tonight as was obvious with them shooting over 50% from the field. JT and AE really struggled tonight.
We need to get a win Monday and steal a surprising win down the road. That is what young but talented teams do when they start clicking.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Would have been nice if Mantas would have been healthy enough to take some of Aaron's minutes tonight.
I'm a big AE fan but I think the injury either set him back or he is still hurting. 0 for 2 with 1 board and 2 TO's in 15 minutes is pretty painful too.

There were a couple of things we knew had to happen this season:
Durley had to learn to play D. I remember 6 straight points Durley gave up on D around the middle of the first half.
Our JuCo players had to be able to play D1 ball. Didn't happen.
The Shox had to learn to play as a team. Shox played JuCo street ball. Durley scored 8, but gave up 6 in a 2 (or 3)-minute stretch midway through the first half.
UMKC took a gamble that they could outshoot us from 3 and hide their interior weakness. We cooperated nicely. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

JMO...This was a coaching failure...all pre-game we heard about UMKC being young, 2nd year coach, brought in all his own players, etc. Same as us. They completely outplayed us, in almost every aspect. Durley was pouting the entire game - blowing off Marshall whenever something was being said to him. We weren't moving on offense. We couldn't pass the ball due to good pressure from UMKC's defense. We're supposed to be sooooo athletic and fast (and long), but what I see is a calculated, slow set into the offense, then a lot of passing around, then poor shots. Jeez, where was it I saw this before. But, "we can score" as everyone has been saying for a couple of weeks now. If we could just play some defense. I think next Thursday, we'll be giving thanks just to be getting off the court. Hope I'm wrong.

Both teams were young and inexperienced - it could have went either way. We made less than 50 percent of our free throws - how is that a coaching failure?
In his post game interview Ramon said it was his fault and the rest of the guys fault for shooting free throws so poorly. He said the situation will be corrected. :goshocks:

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

I thought going into the game UMKC was going to get exploited if they played zone and packed it in...nope, we couldn't cash in.βLet your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.β

My Thoughts
1. Ramon is a beast. Averaging 11 points and 14.5boards a game.
2. FT's were horrible. The looked nervous and then it seemed to snowball after they started missing them.
3. Toure had another good game in my mind. I didn't think he scored 11. Good A/TO ratio.
4. Graham is playing better on D but he lets his man blow by him quite a bit.
5. Hawkins is good at driving but he gets way too many offensive foul calls on him.
6. I think that Stutz will start next game. Durley did not look good. Got to get more than 2 boards though.
7. Play of the game was Toure's steal and drive for the and 1.
I am really upset but I as most of us expected this early on. Looking forward to Monday's game before the trip to Orlando.Shocker fan since December 28th, 2005!

1. Hannah was woeful, played juco ball on the offensive end, and middle school ball on the defensive end.
2. Hatch and Durley might have played better if their offensive games had been clicking. You cannot only play defense when you feel like it, however.
3. Of course you must shoot free throws better. Had we shot 80% from the line, and won by 4, we still woulda played a sh*t game.
4. Hawkins is a one-trick pony. In a few more weeks, with more film on him, nobody will give him that drive.
5. Ellis needs a redshirt year still.
6. How can it be this difficult to tell whether you are taking a bad shot or a good shot? How can you not realize whether or not you are shooting the ball in rhythm?
7. We got outcoached a bit, I thought. That doesn't happen much with this guy.
