I was at that last game in the student section and can confirm that people were throwing coins at Richard Scott, who was sitting on the end of the bench. The student section was very rowdy and the KU players were talking back, which added fuel to the fire. But hey, if you can't handle smack from the student section you shouldn't be playing college ball.
Every Division I and II school in Kansas (and Kansas City) except for WSU?
Just saying. They play everyone else and they played WSU 10 years in a row. For them to stop they had to have felt like they had their reasons.

Yah, but it's been 15 years! It's more about their arrogance now than anything. I think times are a little different. I don't think you'd ever see objects thrown or safety compromised again (at least I hope not).
But I'm not begging for KU. I'm kinda over it. If they don't care, then I don't care. We've filled up the schedule with teams just as good as them in the past. But I wouldn't mind seeing a series again, even if it was 2 for 1. Too bad, they have their 'reasons'.
Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

There's a difference though between smack and objects being thrown. If that was the case, I kinda don't blame them. That's completely uncalled for - especially when we were getting our aces handed too us so badly.

The "objects thrown" was not as bad as it sounds. I think maybe a couple people people threw a coin or two. Not saying it's acceptable, but it was blown out of proportion.

Unfortunately (for the future of the series) times have changed in more than one way. For KU the amount of money they give up with a 1 and 1 with WSU is enormous. KU games now bring in just shy of $1 million just at the gate. With numbers like that there is big time pressure to keep as many non-conference games at home as possible. The only thing that can change that is a lot bigger than normal television $$$ and frankly a WSU game isn't going to do that.
I wish it wasn't so but that's the reality of scheduling any more.
why was that game in 92 so bad? What made KU say never again?
Well I wish I could remember all the details but I just don't so don't quote me on any of this but this is how I remember it. I've looked and looked for some place this is documented but never found it. I'm sure it made the Eagle at the time but they don't have their archives available that far back.
I think there were three main issues:
1) There was some disagreement over how many tickets KU would get. KU claims they were told one number and then when it came time to deliver WSU only gave them another number that was like 10% of the first number. Problem was that KU had already sold the hell out of the first number to various alums in the Wichita area. That meant they had to go back and basically pick favorites among those that had bought tickets.
2) There was some issue over the the condition of the visitors locker room. I think it may have even been that there was no visitors locker room available for KU. The KU players had to change in the hall or something like that ;-]
3) The student section was sort of out of control. Basically they were being pretty nasty (yelling personal things and stuff like that) and then things got heated and stuff was thrown at KU players. I think part of this was because they thought KU had run up the score (KU won by 30)
Some of this may have just been that Roy Williams was always sort of a whiner but I remember at the time the consensus was that it was sort of out of control and that WSU was messing with KU. I seem to remember the writeup on it being that the KU players didn't feel safe.
KU did return the favor a bit the next year though in Lawrence. Ran up the score even worse (won by 49). This was also a Roy Williams favorite when he was displeased.

I was in the student section that night. Nothing was thrown until a KU player (something Nash I believe) came up to the students after the blowout and started jawing at them. That being said, we were drunker than usual, which was pretty drunk. Things were definitely personal. I would also venture it was no worse than KU regularly gets at Missouri or K-State. It comes down to money and perception.
Ah......poor Ku basketball team was mistweated by the students! How unfarwe!
I just LOVE the arrogance of some. Why didn't we just GIVE ALL the tickets to Roy and let him hand them out?
Does anyone think that KU was told they were going to get say 1500 tickets to a WSU home game? Even in 92, promising that number for a KU game makes zero common sense. Now, I will FULLY admit WSU athletics was a total mess then and most things were possible, but the all mighty geniuses in Lawrence should have been smart enough to overcome that and realize that didn't sound right before they promised them to KU backers (who miraculously ended up at that game in big numbers anyway).
I personally attended most of the games between the 2 schools during those years.
NOTHING...and allow me repeat for clarity, absolutely NOTHING that any WSU fan said or did came even marginally close to the pure assfaced dildos in the KU student section in Lawrence. Rarely have I seen vile and cruelty like that spewed from the chosen ones.
My one hope is that when Roy meets his Maker, He runs up the score.
Well technically since the average margin of victory in all the KU vs WSU games in history is 21 points (and 25 points in the victories), a 30 point win really isn't "running up the score" :D
And lets not forget, when Maurice Evans chose WSU, Roy flat out accused the Shocks of cheating, making a comment along the lines of "why would he go there when KU or Oklahoma State are in the picture?" If you remember, an investigation followed his accusations. He just couldn't get that Maurice grew up a Shocker ball boy, etc, must have cheated to get him. KU sucks at life, period, and they don't play WSU because they are so arrogant they feel WSU is well beneath them.

I realize that using facts is generally discourage here but here is the reality of the situation:
KU and WSU played each other exactly 3 times before 1981. One of those times was in 1908 when WSU wasn't even WSU they were Fairmont. The other two were during World War II. In other words, they pretty much had never played each other.
Then a weird thing happened. KU and WSU met in the Sweet 16. Very improbable but it happened. And low and behold what happened? WSU beat KU. Only by 1 point but winning is winning and they did it in the most important game the two schools have ever played.
So what did KU do after this? They scheduled WSU in a serious of 1 and 1s. They played a total of 10 times over the next 11 years. Then 1992 happened and everything changed.
You can say whatever you want but KU certainly did their part for over 10 years. However something changed and what changed was WSU's behavior in 1992. You can say whatever you want but their behavior in 1992 was not good. No visitors locker room? Give me a break. Throwing stuff at players? Unacceptable.
Why would KU schedule a school after what happened in 1992? Would WSU if they had been treated that way? I would certainly hope not. If they would then I'd have to think a lot less of WSU.
KU is not going to play WSU. Get over it. I'd love to see it but it isn't going to happen. I'm not even sure WSU would agree to it now anyway.

You are telling WSU fans to "get over it". Sounds like KU needs to "get over" whatever happened in 1992 (according to my math that is...oh...about 16 freakin years ago). KU are still losers...plain and simple.
Ok...I'm over it

They've got 329 teams to pick from when scheduling non-conference games. The question is why would they schedule WSU before any of the other ones? Given what happened it just seems logical that WSU would be pretty far down the list. Its not like KU has many (any?) reasons to schedule WSU. It doesn't take a whole lot in the other direction to tip the scales.
Are you really suggesting that WSU would schedule a team that treated them like this? I just don't believe that.
