A.J. Hawkins appears to the real thing and I see no reason why he couldn't be newcomer of the year in the Valley. The guard play very well may be excellent with the transfers and we just might have a freshmen guard who could be a big factor. Lets say Ramon Clemente has a good senior year. Now between GS, JT, MG and AE, if a couple of them contribute nicely, I say we would have a very good team. No reason not to be optimistic. 20 win season.

We really don't know about his recruiting too much yet.
Clemente is good. Griskenas hasn't proven his 1st team Juco rating yet.
Ellis has talent, mostly unproven at this point. And as for the other new players, we have not seen them play against other MVC teams yet.
It's game time decisions and actions that prove how good they are.
So, I would not conclusively say, HCGM is a great recruiter at this point in time. This year, although, will speak much more about how good his recruiting is.
If we only go .500, I would say his recruiting is only average, or maybe just slightly above average, since the team will be young.
Some of you may have a bitter taste from Mark Turgeon, but the first 6 years he was here, the team won more and more games each year. Until
Coach Marshall can do that, in a tougher MVC league, he really hasn't proven himself to the Shocker nation. (Although I do have every confidence he has the ability to do just that).
You might say, I am 90% sure of him, but there is still that 10%.

Even non-WSU fans would have to admit Coach Marshall has done all that could be done given the challenges he's dealt with since he's arrived.

Some of you need to get a life and stop setting yourself and the shocks up for a BIG letdown - if you haven't noticed there are several other teams in the valley that have recruited extremely well also who happen to have more core peices returning this year than the shocks. Give the coach time to coach and develop his talent and look at this being a two to three year project to climb to the top and then be thrilled if it happens sooner.

This season will be an improvement over last, as several on Shockernet have repeatedly said the 2009-2010 season will be the breakout season for our beloved Shocks & our messianic HCGM. Please don't drink the kool-aid regularly. Moderation good :good: all consuming bad

3-0 going to Orlando. Sorry, but 3-3 coming back.
Split the road trip to Texas makes it 4-4.
Sweep the rest of the home games leading up to Valley play makes it 7-4.
Brutal opening in Valley play:
@Creighton - L
Bradley - L. Sorry, but youth and inexperience doesn't win that one
@UNI - L. Oh, BS - that's a road W
SIU - W. SIU exposed for no front court.
@Drake - L
@MSU - W. It's Jan 14 and the new guys are figuring it out.
CU, IlSt, UE in Wichita - 3 W's.
@BU - L
Drake - W
@InSU - L. There's going to be a let down game somewhere.
@UE - W. If we can't sweep UE, there will be some doubters posting.
MSU - W. Complete the sweep
UNI - W. Ditto.
@ IlSU - L
Bracket Buster - Improving WSU gets an overmatched team.
InSU - W
@SIU - L
That makes it 11-7 in the Valley and 19-11 overall.
The early tough stretch in the Valley is crucial. Have to get 2 of the first 5 and then sweep the 3-game home stand. That's a fairly tall order for a lot of new players, but it's doable with the players and the coaches at WSU.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I think 19 or 20 is possible. The two juco point guards need to adjust to the D1 level to make it possible. If all the walking wounded are ready and playing shape and JT learns to play some defense we maybe okay. We do have seven players that have played in D1 games and spent a year learn in Marshall's system.

Aargh your assessment is well reasoned and honest. At this point it's anyone's game. I will be very pleased with the season should the end result be 18 to 19 wins. Of course the team could always positively surprise!
