They're other things you have to take into account. One being that we're playing a tougher schedule and the other being that the teams in the league will be tougher this year than last year. I think we'll be better than last year, but it might not translate into more wins. I myself think that 17 wins will be a good season. I would guess 16 home wins and 1 win on the road. I'm not expecting any wins in the Old Spice Classic. I could see us getting to 20 wins if we take care of business at home and win 1 game in the Old Spice Classic. Then we'd only need 3 wins on the road in the league. All this is not counting any wins in the post season tournament(s).

        LOL.

Are you an SIU fan in disguise?

If this was a serious prediction, I hope you can handle letdowns well.
What is the point of mocking a fellow Shocker when he or she feels positive about the team? What are you really trying to accomplish? Everybody has an opinion, some think we will win more, some think we will win less. But what is the point of mocking someone when they think we will win more? That is the kind of thing opposing teams do, not fellow fans. It promotes an environment where the "realists" are unconsciously hoping that we fail so they will be right. What is the benefit of that?

KCShox constantly falls prey to this double-edged sword. If he is right he is seen to be taunting Shocker fans for the failure of our program. If he is proven wrong he just avoids the site because the reprisal waiting for him is strong and relentless. This is why KCShox is thought of as a total imbecile and genuinely disliked by those of us who matter.

You still have time to turn it around. When someone makes a post about a very bullish season and you feel you MUST make the world know that you disagree, just say something like, "Wow, that record would be great but I think it is a bit unrealistic considering how young our program is".

I'm the last one that should discuss etiquette on an internet forum but there are some things you should just not do. One of them is mocking a fellow fan for predicting a winning season. That path always ends bad for the mocker and contributes to a culture of hostility surrounding the improvement of our program... -never a good thing.

I felt there were six games last year we could have won if we had just made bunnies. They were close games and if we shoot a reasonable percentage as a team (40%) we would have won. That would have put us at 17 wins. I don't think 18-19 wins is out of the question even with a much tougher schedule.

Maybe I am being to pessimistic, but I would be happy to see a young team with loads of talent win 16 games and post a winning season...It's a tough league and we are young....Having said that, I am amazed at the talent level we are consistently getting and in TWO years...when these guys are Juniors and Orupke is here,..I really think we will be a Top 25 team...Coach Marshal seems to be an amazing recruitor

If they go from about 1% good luck to 50%, and improve besides, 20 wins is not that farfetched, and if they're even close to as lucky this year as they were unlucky last year, Bigshotmaker could look clairvoyant. I'm not going to say I expect 22-8, because that opening tournament looks mighty tough, and if they struggle in Orlando there isn't much margin for error. But nothing will shock me.
Luck can definitely help improve a season's win total.

But luck by itself is not what decides a season. Right now, we need more than luck to have a 'good' season, by our standards.

09-10 will be a different story.

I do believe 22-8 is extremly opptomistic. This team will start out the season being "young and dumb" with many of them making the jump to Div 1 this year. Don't get me wrong, I do believe this team is very talented. The question is how quickly they adapt HCM's system. The non-conference part of the schedule will be very challenging for this young team and they must learn from their set backs. I am hoping to be ready for the MVC play and go undefeated at home. These are reasonable reachable goals. GO SHOCKS!!! :goshocks:  :posterwsu: :good: :posterwu: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

                          Shocks finish 17-13.

Shocks + Chuck Norris finish 85-1. The lone loss being a strange double-overtime loss to Chuck Norris's evil twin. That loss is later avenged, although the whereabouts of Chuck's evil twin are unknown....

All I will say concerning predictions is who, anywhere in the country, had Drake winning the valley?

Give Marshall and these guys some credit. They have put forth an effort this summer we haven't seen in a while, if ever. These kids can play defense, and will be much much improved offensively.

And mark my words, we will not be outrebounded in a single game this year. (Ok, after Orlando. But only those Top 20 teams MAY be able to do it.)

As long as they get hot late in the season--right around Valley Tourney time, they can struggle some and I'll be fine with it. It's going to be bad before it gets good, but hopefully most of the really, really 'bad' was last season!

I will make a prediction: We'll be in the top 2 in rebounding in the MVC this season as a team. If we had EO, it'd be #1 for sure. Still might be, but we should be good around the glass either way.
