Are you kidding? McDuffie a better defender than Brown. Thank the heavens you are not in charge of talent evaluation for this team.

      • Help us, Sully, you're our only hope. The natives have gone too long with no new info to digest.

Brown may be better subjectively, and I think from the eye test he's a better, but it's certainly not as clear cut as you act. McDuffie has a better D-rating(in fact a top 15 nationally one), higher steal rate, block rate, lower foul rate, higher defensive box +/-, and higher DWS/40(in fact falls just outside the top 20 in DWS total). McDuffie is a LEGIT defender, as is ZB.

            • While I would give Brown an edge on D. versus MM, as the Season progressed, the difference between the two defenders seemed closer to me. Two stats of interest goes as follows: "ZB--24 steals and MM 42 and ZB with 7 blocked shots and MM with 11. The point is, both are good and I look for improvement from both of them this Season and in big hopes our Team D. is better than even last Season.

              • McDuffie regularly gets underrated on offense and defense by people on this board. Since he can play the 2-4, I don't think there's a starting lineup in the country that he wouldn't make better.

Personally, I think it's because his offense is so effortless most of the time. And on defense, I think some of us just didn't appreciate the huge leap he made.

                • Both McDuffie and Brown are long and athletic. They have also worked with Kerry R. and improved their strength. Defense ability has a lot to do with competitiveness and pride and both these young man have a lot of both.

Interesting stats. They are both good. I think it should also be considered that Brown was usually assigned the best player on the opposing team which might skew the stats somewhat.

He does have other strengths and is a good team defender, but his on ball defense isn't where you'd like and his lack of height doesn't help him. Reaves also isn't a great on ball defender (lateral quickness is not good) but his height and high BBIQ hides some of his deficiencies.
CF can't move very well and is very small and weak. He must not spend enough time pumping iron in the weight room and working with the nutrition staff to pack on some muscle. He must be a gym rat spending many hours working that magical shot that he has

Thank you! I have said this for two years now. He is the real deal always in the right place at the right time. His ability allows others to thrive. One of the strongest true team players i have ever seen. 110% all day everyday. And yes he is underestimated by many on this board.

I definitely think that is responsible for some slight skew, but not as much as comparing to others on the team. If ZB was off the floor MM was almost certainly on that guy, and there were many games where it was a straight platoon/switch even when both were on the floor to give different looks. ZB is a much more physical defender who can bump guys off their line, but MM is a damn tarantula that makes the prospect of getting around him and getting a shot up terrifying.

I'll toot my own horn on this one... I remeber posting that his freshmen D was as impressive as R. Bakers (MTXE)... That bodes well!!! Shamet too!!! It's nice to have at least 2 players like that on the same team. With them I anticipate a March run (this season or next) where some people are going to get seriously bludgeoned.
