October 15, 2017
President John Bardo spoke at Startup Grind ICT, a monthly event that connects local entrepreneurs, on Thursday. Joining the American Athletic Conference
"President John Bardo said the decision to move Wichita State from the Missouri Valley Conference to the American Athletic Conference had nothing to do with basketball.
“I don’t care about basketball,” Bardo said. “That’s not why we did it. Think about the other schools in the athletic conference.
“We’re like Houston. We’re not like Evansville,” He said. “It’s part of this message of, who are we?”

"Kansas basketball: Jayhawks find perfect fit in preseason poll" - Fansided: Through the Phog
by Stan Unruh
Posted 10/20/17
..."They are two spots below another Kansas Jayhawks team in the poll. That might make fans in Wichita happy but I don’t believe it is accurate. As a matter of fact, the American Athletic Conference lists the Shox behind Cincinnati in their preseason poll. The Bearcats come in at #13 in the USA Today poll...."

Here's the main difference in Marshall saying a quote like he did and a power 5 coach saying it: IF Bradley ever gets better, MUCH better, than Marshall would look at scheduling it. We don't see the Valley as "beneath us" like Power 5 schools do. But we aren't signing up for more RPI killing games just because Wardle's feelings were hurt. Prove it on the court FIRST Wardle and then you can say something like this and Marshall WOULD listen. WSU wants to play good basketball teams regardless the conference (hence Charleston on the schedule this year). Until then get off twitter and get in the gym with your players and make a better basketball team. Whining like Wardle is why I grew to dispise the other teams in the Valley the last couple of years. It's also how Henson won a COY. It's a great day to be a Shocker and an "American" Shocker.

"Here’s what March Madness could look like if the preseason polls are correct" - NCAA.com
Mike Lopresti
Last Updated - Nov 2, 2017 13:40 EDT
What if they’re all right this season – every conference, every college basketball poll? This is what March would look like.
"...Speaking of Wichita State, the Shockers won’t win the American as the new kids on the block, even if they were in most preseason national top-10s. The ballots went for Cincinnati. By one point. Guess Wichita State has to pay its dues with American voters...."
