Frankly before the unfortunate events at BGSU, NMSU could not have been in the running for Jans. Obviously the AD was aware of Jans from his MVC association, and it appears was his top pick from the start. It won't take the NMSU fans long to realize that they just got a very good coach and to rally behind him.
Thanks to Chris for all that he has done at WSU, and best wishes to him in his new position. I love it when good people that make a bad decision are given a second chance. No doubt in my mind that CJ will be very successful on and off the court at NMSU.
nmsu (final four in 1970, lou henson) is a much, much better job than bowling green. what a great situation for chris jans. he goes to bowling green for one year (!), turns them around instantly, gets fired, rejected.. and finally ends up at nmsu just that quick?! i'd say he landed on his feet, all right.. and then some. basketball is king in kentucky, kansas, indiana, north carolina.. and new mexico too. the mad love is there for hoops. they are about to become like san diego state has been the last ten years or so. that could be a final job for him.
he paid his pennance and is now getting paid back double in his career. nmsu + chris jans is a can't miss partnership. homerun. the aggies go to the ncaa tournament every other year anyway. now they can actually start winning games once there.
but i'm in a bit of shocker basketball mourning. 'sure sucks to lose him right before wichita state begins american conference play.Last edited by another shocker; April 18, 2017, 09:42 AM.

At the worst, we will see a periennial 25-30 game winner until he moves on to a bigger school.
Congrats CJ!
They don't pay well and are heavily in debt. BoR controls a lot of athletic decisions. Probably political with UNM.

Could be Chris was thinking that, with his baggage, he needed to take the 1st opportunity to prove that he is worthy of bigger and better things down the road and at age 48 he perhaps doesn't have the luxury of being overly picky. I think he will do well and I wish him well and I thank him for all of his outstanding contributions to the Wichita State program.Last edited by 1972Shocker; December 24, 2017, 01:27 PM.
