I think it's reasonable to see why someone would expect a little allegiance to WSU.
He's been here the better part of 10 years. You know what they call that? A decade. Which means a long time. How much is enough?

Bottom line is you don't know when or if an opportunity is going to present itself again. Chris is taking an opportunity that he feels is best for him and his family. Can't be mad at him for that.

10 years straight...sure, I'd be happy for him.

10 years with a gap of one year where he went and tossed a grenade on his career? One that WSU helped fix, only to bounce less than a week after another coach left and he was promoted? I can be a little mad at that

      • The timing of both leaving sucks. I don't know why Heiar left but if HCGM wants him back and offers him the AHC job and similar money I think he would come back. I am sure his young family is not happy about moving to Baton Rouge. It is not a destination city for sure. However, I am confident Marshall will do the right thing either way and we will be fine.

Sure. Because you toss away opportunities to more than double your salary all the time. I'm sure he interviewed and this was well in the works before Heier left.

Jan's was back for two years. Not enough? Should it be 3? 5? Whats the magic number to make Stickboy happy?

I assume you would be more than willing to turn down a 50% raise(or more) at your current job out of respect to your current boss?

Do you all really think Jans' only option after Bowling Green was to be a consultant here? Doubtful. I'm sure there were many places he could have gone and been a full assistant. I am very appreciative of his contributions here and know he will be successful at NMSU.
You're high if you think this does not smack of being ungrateful and lack of loyalty. CJ could not get a job at a D1 program after that BGSU affair if it weren't for Gregg. Moving to the AAC and now 2 AC short is a slap. Gregg will take the high road, of course.

The announcement about Coach Weir leaving NMSU was just on April 11. The announcement about Heier was the same day. NMSU probably was not interviewing Jans before Heier left.

New Mexico looked to its own backyard for a new men's basketball coach by hiring NMSU head coach Paul Weir to lead the Lobos.

Marshall certainly did him a favor but let's not act like we didn't get the better end of the deal, we got an elite assistant coach pennies on the dollar. I am certain Jans could have had a true assistant position job rather than the special assistant/consultant job he had here. This wasn't a black ball scenario like Forbes faced. If one year later Eustachy could go to having a head coaching job, or Dave Bliss manage to get another job ANYWHERE, Jans could have gotten an assistant job.

Not 5 days after accepting a promotion.

Did AndShock's boss hire him after he got fired for inappropriate advances towards a women that got broadcast across the U.S.? Did his boss just promote him this week after another member of his small team left?

If the answer is no, that's an irrelevant question.

                          • I'm sure we'll all get a lot of clarity in the coming days and weeks.

Very happy and proud for Chris and I hope we beat his tail in the Final Four. He'll be great in Las Cruces.

In my opinion, this program is a lot bigger than CJ but if I'm wrong, then we all have a lot swagger to walk back.

Chris was great for WSU and I wish him the very best and I will miss a friend, but next man up. Go Shocks!
