Before Weir left NMSU the AD asked him to put together a list of suggested program improvements. Below is his list:
Included in Weir's list was:- The elimination of a $4.3 million athletic department debt to the university.
- Access to the Pan American Center lockerrooms and practice facility at all times, an issue that surfaced last weekend during the Garth Brooks concert series at the Pan American Center, which was also the final recruiting period before the current signing period opened on Wednesday. Aggies recruits, coaches and staff were not permitted access to the facility throughout the weekend.
- A funding plan for Pan American Center renovations within the next four years.
- Keeping dorms open during breaks.
- A strength coach who would be shared between the men's and women's basketball programs.
- Free use of the Pan American Center for summer camps.
- Initial and final say in athletic department contracts.
- And, to initiate a process of athletic department special admissions regardless of grade point average or test scores.

Well, if NMSU wants to go on the cheap, Jesse Bopp would be their man. They paid Weir $250,000 to be their Head Basketball Coach. Bopp has been a Head Coach in Vermont Academy (I'm not sure if it is a SCA Prep School or not), before being the DOBO at VCU, an Asst. at Chattanooga (SoCon), and one year at NMSU.
They can probably get him for South of $200,000 if they need to. It appears that they are in debt already so it may not be a great landing spot for AHC Jans.

I sure hope Coach Jans sticks around for at least a couple more years. I think this is the time when Marshall really really needs him and I also think he can find a much better spot after exposure to the American for a couple of years. I always thought it was odd that NMSU was in to selling themselves for BB games but after reading that article it makes more sense. I don't think they get much of any active support from their administration.

I am in considerable consternation about how I feel regarding all this.
Would GH still be here if CJ would have been first to leave? Would HCGM then make GH the AHC?
Where would CJ be today if HCGM hadn't done all he did for him, especially with WSU being high profile? That high profile was both a potential high risk for HCGM and a boon for CJ.
Then there is the timing of all this coming on the heals of being admitted to the AAC, something, I'm sure, all 3 wanted very badly for WSU and themselves.
@shoxtop: said, "I feel like there are still some here that need to understand that is where we are now." I fully understand that....in most situations. This is not. All 3, HCGM, GH, and CJ, were getting a "promotion" of sorts with us going to the AAC next season. Yes, if both leave, I do feel a bit like they bailed on the coach and school that helped get them there. Had we still been in the Valley, I'd have no problem with this situation.
There. I said it. I'm not going to hide some of my feelings as this affects us and WSU as well as HCGM.

If Marshall had not hired Jans as an assistant, another school would've.
I think it would be weird timing since Jans was just promoted, but Marshall knows AHCCJ wants to be a HC again soon. There's clearly demand for his services.
It does amaze me that fans so often expect coaches and/or players to behave irrationally when it comes to their job or playing career, but we would do the same thing they are doing when it comes to our careers and livelihoods.
All that said, I think it would be a blow to our program if he left, without a doubt. I hope he stays, one way or another."In God we trust, all others must bring data." - W. Edwards Deming
