I guarantee that is the case...

        Last week

By CODY WORSHAM | Tiger Rag Editor It's one week until Will Wade reaches the artificial deadline he set for filling out his staff. Things could be coming to a head soon for the two remaining spots on LSU's bench and the supporting roles around the program. "When we’re able to go back out for

Advertising for an Associate Head Coach gives Coach Laskowska a big advantage since she has been an Associate Heach Coach for many years under Keitha Adams at UTEP. Not sure I remember WSU having an Associate Head Coach for WBB.

Looks like they just made it official. Ewa Laskowska has been hired as Associate Head Coach at WSU.

So if we HAD to lose an assistant, would you choose to drop CJ or GH?

Not a loaded question; I'm just curious what someone who knows the inner-workings of our program might say. Obviously, it would have been preferable to retain them both, but that's not happening.

I am positive it was a formality, it is common even with my employer to post a position for so many days even if we have a candidate ready to hire.

I like Jans. I am not on the inside. Heier was also a stud!

Could be a situation where the AD said we have to do something about Jans position and that he can't stay on as a special assistant forever. 3G made an evaluation and knew the GH was pondering another opportunity so the timing was right for everyone. I hate to think the worst for GH, he seems like a good dude.

Typically, I think that all 3G really asks of his assistants is that they commit for 2 years. Greg Heiar was a very fine addition to our coaching staff and made many outstanding contributions to the team's success. No reason that I can see to have any negative feelings toward GH at all. In fact, I think the opposite it true.

According to goshockers, WSU currently has three assistant coaches, none of whom is listed as "associate head coach," plus one special assistant who used to hold that role.

It's possible Heiar would like to be the AHC, and not at all unreasonable that he might, but that he didn't see it coming to pass. If so, it would be no great surprise for him (a) to be frustrated, and (b) to look elsewhere. He's obviously an excellent coach and recruiter and well qualified to move up if the right opportunity arises, and maybe Will Wade is willing to offer him a higher spot on his totem pole -- one from which he'd be more easily able to take the next step to a head coaching job. If so, best of luck to him.

Edit: Didn't see shockvalue's speculation before posting, but I think he's likely right on target. If Marshall were Bill Self, he'd keep the special assistant job open, offer it to the Lawson dad from Memphis, and see what happens. Personally, I'm glad WSU doesn't operate that way.

Are we sure this couldn't be just a case of more money at LSU?

Always a possibility. The don't say follow the money for nothing.

I heard the pool of funds for assistants at Alabama was quite a bit more than here, so it would be no surprise that a sizable raise is part of the deal. I know Greg and his wife - they are both very good people and they loved it here. I also think LSU, while down now, has a ton of upside potential in the next few years. GH may see it as his best opportunity to get paid a little more and enhance his resume a bit more prior to his big move.

Glad to have him for as long as we did and wish him the best! He will be a valuable addition to WW's staff.
