I haven't seen Pyle and he has more exposure than Ron, but I remember how many missed on Baker and the number of so called experts who still miss on Baker. They look too much at athleticism and not enough at the intangibles.

@SB Shock:. You mentioned the Memphis defections having an effect. While they were top players for Memphis, did you also account for UConn's 3 defections of lesser players and losing their top recruit for 2017?

There are intangibles that don't show up in the star-based ratings of recruits. I believe that is where Marshall and his coaches do a good amount of their evaluation. They are high on character, work-ethic and coachability. Maybe this is a slight exaggeration, but when Marshall gets a player commitment, I add one star to his rating.

I'm excited to see what happens when the staff begins targeting the 3-4 (maybe 5) star guys, after years of only getting in the door of the 2-3 stars.

Don't the rating services also tend to bump recruits' ratings up based on their signings (or is that only a SN legend)? It would obviously make the rating differentials more suspect if that practice is widespread.

3G did a great job of bringing the best guys he could find to WSU. He was able to sell them on winning. Going forward, he also gets to sell them on playing in major cities all over the east coast and Texas, not to mention all the extra TV games. I have to think that will make his job substantially less difficult.

You will often see guys rated around 130 that sign with a reputable high major finish up around 90 in the rankings. The reverse is also true. If a top 100 is being recruited by middling power conference schools, but ultimately signs with a mid, they will often times drop out of the top 100.

And that's why recruiting services are garbage.

I think that sometimes interest falls off for kids because they don't perform as well late, or have an attitude issue that doesn't sit well with high major coaches. Other kids show what they can do late and interest picks up. In those circumstances the change is appropriate. I have no idea what percentage of kids are impacted by performance vs potential vs interest.

but we'll find out next year what marshall recruiting means (mvc vs. aac). those players were all, every one of them, recruited under the mvc era. does he absolutely need to recruit up (though he most cetainly will, eventually)? we'll get a quick idea next year.

rebuilding year, minus van vleet and baker, and they had kentucky nation sweatin' and fartin'.

Not sure whether it's true, but it's definitely more than SN legend. I'm an Alabama football fan, and I follow their recruiting -- the best in the country year in and year out, so they're in on all the four and five star guys they can handle -- and I've heard that same thing said about them plenty of times: that an offer from Bama and serious recruiting pursuit by them can add a star to a guy's rating. Still don't know if it's really true, and no service would officially admit it, but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Yes they were captured. Either UCONN is doing less with more or their numbers are inflated.

Any news on recruits for next year, other than Thor?

You mean other than Asbjorn and Samajae? On his interview with John Rothstein this week #G said they were done with 2017 recruiting. Now whether that was a definitive statement or not was kind of hard to tell. But clearly they are most focused on the Class of 2018 and beyond at this point. Great info available on the recruiting thread.

Samaje always slips my mind. Too excited to see if Asbjorn can play.
