I believe Dr. Beggs hired Jim Schaus.

I am grateful. MT did come in at a very important time, but the numbers since don't lie.

I think Tad was the zen. Mark wasnt ever the same after Tad split.

How do you think Turgeon feels after constantly thinking there was a definitive level at his "old job" and to now see Marshall crush the invisible ceiling with even more sustained success than Turgeon ever has at a P5 program lol
It's got to sting a little right? Like someone else taking over an office job and they can do it twice as fast and better ouch

It's apples and oranges. You are comparing a future HOF coach with a good coach. That's not a knock on Mark.

doesn't turgeon kind of expect to be head coach at ku someday? maybe he will, with larry brown behind him. although i don't know the respective ages of self and turgeon.

I think Mark was HUGE at the time for the Shockers, and IF he would have not bolted after a bad season, it would have been intriguing to see if he could have 'righted the ship'...who knows?

I think he's NOT the fute KU coach...similar in age to Self, and NOWHERE near as accomplished. He'd get crushed in comparisons.

It's not a knock on Mark to say we appreciate his one Valley title. We hadn't had one in a long time. His one NCAA appearance is greatly appreciated as well. That he struggled a little at this level to maintain success is not a knock either.

Mark's probably our 5th best coach (behind HCGM, Ralph Miller, Gene Johnson, and Gene Smithson) out of 25 spanning 113 years of Shocker hoops history. Maybe you throw Leonard Umnus ahead of him and knock him down to 6th best although the difference in eras makes it hard to measure. He has the 4th most wins in program history.

I don't get the need to belittle his achievements. He inherited a decrepit mess and did an excellent job turning things around. He is no HCGM, to be sure, but he accomplished a great deal and I am grateful for his efforts during his tenure.

Absolutely! To go from where we were in 2000 to a Sweet 16 in 2006... C'mon. That's great stuff right there.

I'm not holding it against him for taking Bowles to A&M. Even though it's considered bad etiquette.

I appreciate everything HCMT did for WSU - including leaving. I don't think MT could have accomplished the things 3G has here. However, we would have never gotten 3G if MT hadn't started the building process. IMHO, 3G has taken our program places that none of us could have imagined 10 years ago. I'm excited about the next 10 years.
