I had a foreign language class at WSU that went 5 days a week and had 3 K-State misfits in it.. Brutal course. Imagine sitting there 5 days a week trying to learn a foreign language, put up with a rather rude professor and listen to how great K-State is compared to WSU all at the same time. I call them ksu misfits cause thats exactly what they were. WSU admissions needs a better filter to avoid getting students other places didnt want.

Because my wife had family who were big OU football fans, we went to a Sooner Caravan event a few years ago. On occasion, I would find myself rooting for OU football, so I was excited to go. Unfortunately, I found myself quite bored at the event because OU was not my school, so I didn't have the connection to it like I do for WSU. Plus, it didn't help that Bob Stoops kinda acted like a jerk to us in an autograph line. I think that pretty much ended any following that Mrs. 16 and I had for the Boomer Sooners.Originally posted by ShoxFan7 View PostYeah I don't get it either. I ran into an old high school friend at Koch Arena during a game. He went to WSU for his undergrad then to OU for his grad degree but he's decked out in KU gear at this Shockers game. Gave him some grief about it and he explained, which I knew, he grew up a KU fan and it didn't matter to him where he went to school he was always going to be a KU fan. That logic just didn't register with me but if anything I guess he's loyal.

I understand this board has many die hards who don't have anything but sour on KU, and that's ok too.

Just a thought: With our move to the American, I have found that I am not even thinking about KU as much as I used to. Meaning I don't find myself "wishing" to play them more. I can't stand KU when I think of them....but that's just it. I DON'T think about them as much.
I asked myself, "why is that?" The conclusion I've come to is We are WICHITA STATE. We are big time now and not just in my own mind. We talk about competing for national championships not once in a great moon (2014), but every couple of years (2014, 2018). Big-time programs do this. Big-time programs move to better conferences because of their national branding. I don't need a KU fan to tell me Wichita State is legit to feel worthy (sadly in the back of my mind this USED to be so). Now I have every other program in the nation (and most recently the 11 other schools in the American) telling me "yea, WSU is legit."
Folks let's count our blessings. We are Wichita State. It's all a gift. Enjoy the ride. Let's make a run at the title this year. And lastly, it's a great day to be a shocker, and a great day to truly not even care nor think about KU.
Now can we let this thread die? Thanks.

2 years ago, it seemed like a lot less than half were ku fans. At least from were I was sitting.

I don't care who they end up rooting for, I just hate when they question why I root against the Chickens. Nothing makes me want to be the most obnoxious Chickenhawk hater I can be, than some Chickenhawk telling me they will be rooting for us, why don't I root for them. Uh, because FU.

I find it fun to insult KU and their fanbase. But at the end of the day, I care about WSU and WSU only. Any failure or success on KU's part does not even register to me. I know I'm different because I am younger and have grown up in a different era than many folks on here, and I certainly understand and do share some of the resentment in terms of the med school, becoming a state school, etc., but I just don't care about what they are doing. I really don't.
I also think "Chickenhawk" is a stupid insult. It sounds like a 3rd grader made it up. "Beakers" is probably better. Rolls off the tongue easier."In God we trust, all others must bring data." - W. Edwards Deming

I can honestly care less if we ever play KU ever again. Would it be nice stickin it to em again? Sure, but if it never happens, oh well. It's funny they're even considered blue blood. You had the guy that invented basketball start it all there? Yeah, I'd hope you'd have some titles. You would think they'd have more than than UK and UCLA.
The thought of Quantrill's Raiders burning down their fruity little town makes me smile, but the need to play them is setting the bar low.

Not an exact comparison, but it is pretty close, I think.
Imagine being Catholic and thus fancying yourself as a Bishop Carroll fan. For whatever reason though, you aren't able to actually go to school there, so you actually go to West High. You still always talk about how Bishop Carroll is such a awesome place and that these West High people are white trash...certainly not like the wonderful classy superior people like yourself who like Bishop Carroll.
Pretty ridiculous uppity behavior, right?
Change:
-"Catholic" to "basketball fan"
-"Bishop Carroll" to "KU"
-"West High" to "WSU"78-65

I can certainly understand rooting for a team other than the one whose school you attended, because that's exactly what I do myself.
I grew up a Shocker fan almost from the time I was first in grade school in Wichita, but I never considered attending WSU, because I didn't want to stay at home for college (and my parents didn't seem to mind having me out of the house). So I attended college elsewhere -- two of them, in fact -- but never rooted for either one, because I was already a WSU loyalist and always will be. If the Shocks play either of the schools I actually attended (as in fact they have done), it would never cross my mind not to root for the Shocks as usual, because my loyalty doesn't shift; and if the Shocks should happen to lose, my past attendance at the other school is no consolation whatsoever.
Shocks forever -- and, by the way, down with The Flagship!
