This type of qualified apology would only add fuel to the fire. "I acted poorly and I sprry amd it won't happen again" would be better.

But why not take a jab at the NCAA while she's apologizing? They have no legal recourse (that I know of) to punish her or HCGM because of anything SHE says. Now HCGM, yes he has to choose his words carefully. At worst, places can ban her from the building if they so choose. But that is their discretion, and the NCAA should have no say in that. Then again, it is the NCAA, so who knows.

Think about it - you're in Indianapolis. IU probably made overtures to Marshall and he (smartly) told them to pound sand. To make it seem like mighty Indiana University wasn't snubbed by the coach of lowly Wichita State, start spinning stories attacking the character of said coach and his family. Then, when asked if you approached said coach of lowly Wichita State, you can say that he doesn't fit with the character and image of mighty IU. Fred Glass is desperately trying to save face because he doesn't want to hire the jerk from Westwood, but that might end up being his only choice.

I love a good conspiracy theory, but this could be closer to the truth than conspiracy. It's how IU operates.

Because an apology with a "but for" is no apology. The behavior is on Lynn. The seeding is on the NCAA. Not related.

Fair point, but we know 1 will apologize (at least we hope) and 1 won't. And we all know which one is more likely to apologize. Still, the inept NCAA needs to be called out time and time again until they figure it out.

Wait, none of that explains why it's bad. You're just saying it's bad, but you're not telling me why I'm supposed to think it's bad. What is the impact of her behavior? Donations? Recruiting? Sanctions? Something else?

That's your narritive. If you can't understand the "bad" in what happened I will save the art for someone a bit more intuitive.

I will try to give you something that will help you out. Other than being embarrassing, it's not really bad in the public eye. In fact, it's probably not even going to hurt with donations or sanctions. It could, I repeat, could hurt the recruiting. After all, if I'm a recruit, I'm probably not going to want to go to a school where the coaches wife outshadows the players and gets more media time than me. OK, probably not likely to happen, but it is a possibility.

The bigger possibility that I can see, that is more likely to happen and that others have mentioned, is future jobs for HCGM. If and when he decides he wants to go elsewhere (which I hope is never), he might have a harder time because of the perception of his wife. Schools may pass on him because "we don't want your wife bringing a negative light to our school." Again, probably not likely to happen, but those are possibilities. Does that kind of answer what you were really trying to ask?

OR, the recruits could see how dedicated not only the coach is, but also how dedicated his wife and family are to making sure that the kids are treated fairly and given a fair shake. IMO, that's the more likely scenario.

That's a very good possibility too. The guy wanted answers to why it was bad, I gave him some possibilities The question wasn't why is it good, but why is it bad.

My Beliefs tell me to treat all people with respect. My faith also recognizes that I will falter and fortunately it offers grace that without, I would be doomed. I think that this is another tempest in a teapot. I have a feeling that basketball competition is more difficult for a coach and wife who have fiery personalities. I must admit I've faltered as well. Lynn deserves grace too.

I am not a man of faith, but you are spot on. I have on more than one occasion embarassed myself and my associates. Used to be a fairly regular occurence. I have found people to be pretty forgiving when a hearfelt apology is offered and much less so when I tried to defend or deflect my behavior. I think that would be the case here. In that case it would amount to no more than a tempest in a teapot.

I'm traveling internationally, so I can't see what's going o with with this whole "situation", but his sounds like something that will be forgotten about in a week.

This is so embarrassing!!! This is HUGE!!! This is going to be as big of a deal as Gregg's behavior in Canada!! I mean, you all remember how we still haven't heard the end of that, how it still haunts HCGM's every waking moment, how WSU is STILL to this day held in low regard by everyone on the face of the planet by that incident???!!!
