It will always be fun to see who we are playing each year, but we finally have a season with tons of great games in it now. I don't have to hold my breath and see if we will have a nice slate anymore.
Woah woah woah. Let's pump the brakes.

This move has never been about deemphasizing the noncon. It has been about making games after December relevant again. The noncon will still be extremely important to us, our SOS, and our RPI. We're not Syracuse.

Agreed. The Big East had an average RPI of 75 this past season. The AAC had an average RPI of 135 (126 if you include the Shocks). The Big East had 7 NCAA bids. The AAC had 2 (3 if you count the Shocks). Still some work to do for the AAC. However, the good thing is that the AAC member institutions seem motivated to at least try to improve overall unlike the Valley who just seemed to shrug their shoulders and accept their lot in life.

You couldn't do this if you wanted to next year. Most teams have already gotten most all of their non-con schedule already filled out. Might be a little tough trying to cancel 3 or 4 non-con games.

My example was for a 16 game conf schedule. Big difference between 16 and 22. I'm only suggesting that if our AAC schedule comes out and we have Houston (for example) on there only once AND we have a mutually open date in the non-con, could we or should we schedule them in non-con? I think it would be more beneficial and less risky for conference RPI purposes vs. taking the chance of not filling the schedule with good non-con opponents.

A lot would depend on how soon the conference schedule is known to all the teams involved and then what open date outside of the conference slate would be available. Then it has to be super clear that one is a OOC gamenot to be counted in the conference standings and the other is an AAC game that does count in the standings.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Hopefully, whatever scheduling system the AAC decides to employ I hope we see some ancillary benefits in who we are able to schedule in non-conference games.

I'm pretty optimistic regarding most of the AAC. WSU and Cincy should be just as good as last year. SMU should be very solid too if Semi Ojeleye returns. UCF, Temple and Tulsa should be improved from last year and may be fighting for a spot in the tourney. UConn and Memphis are looking rough, but maybe they'll salvage something. I'm cautiously optimistic for ECU being quite a bit better than they were, Flemming is a pretty good player. I think in general, the AAC looks like they are trending in the right direction.

Considering I haven't been optimistic about the Valley in years, I'm ecstatic. Even the thought of being interested in some of our conference opponents NBA draft decisions is pretty uncharted water for us.

So we have how many spots open now?

Unless I'm mistaken, the only 6 we know about are Maui(x4), OU, @OSU. With an 18 game league schedule (which starts a week later, btw), a 4-game MTE means 31 available games.

                          So 13 non-con. 6 known. 7 available.

I'm sure UNI could use a buy game!

Haha! I thought of that too.

I bet the MWC wants out of this challenge now.

Just give them Drake and show them the "All about the Drake video" that should ease their pain.
