This concept that going to a "state "school as being some kind of lesser school is outdated and no longer relevant. Being Wichita "state "isn't any kind of negative connotation at all compared to the University of Wichita. Just keep WSU and move on in life to something Else.

Why not just change the name of the State to Wichita. Then change KU to Wichita State University-Lawrence and Kstate to Wichita State University-Manhattan. While your at it make a rule that the three schools have to play each other every year.

Please read "Uncloistered Halls" by Dr. Craig Miner to find out why we became Wichita State University, instead of The University of Kansas, Wichita Campus. Many people, especially Dr. Harry Corbin, fought a difficult and bitter battle for our new name, and I would not want it to be changed for their sake. And I sometimes call Koch Arena either Henry Levitt Arena or the Roundhouse, and the Rhatigan the C.A.C.

This idea was brought up again by Kirk Seminoff of the Eagle:
Just a thought as #Shockers get set to head to the @American_Conf: It's time to drop "State" and become the University of Wichita again. 1/The Assman

What's in a name? A lot. That is why I personally think a move to Wichita University or the University of Wichita would be beneficial. The "State" in Wichita State University makes a lot of people from outside (and probably within) the region associate the university with second tier status. All off of the name. Think about these for a second: Which sounds more prestigious, Memphis State University or University of Memphis? How about Florida Technological University or the University of Central Florida? What about the University of Houston-University Park or the University of Houston? Louisiana State University New Orleans or the University of New Orleans?
