Like I'm sure for most of us, the SIU enrollment issue was news to me. Dropping 10K students in a single generation, and 5K in only the last five years, is alarming. Reason number... oh who the hell keeps track anymore... to get the eff out of the Valley ASAP. Should rename this damn league the Rust Belt Conference, not for geography, but for the other gazillion parallels.

Keep in mind he was talking about Rasheed. Now Rashard on the other hand...

Rasheed doesn't have superior (Maybe not even average athlete) talent. He's a below average shooter(maybe lower). He's a tweener who isnt a perimeter or post player but he's found his niche. He's a leader and an effort guy. A big guy who can move well enough to press and big enough to play defense against bigger players and rebound. He doesn't shoot many threes and therefore doesn't take bad shots. He passes well and doesn't turn the ball over. He has made a niche for himself where his talent may have placed him on the bench. Early, I would have seen Willis (a better athlete but missing many of the little skills I mentioned) in his spot but Rashard has earned his important role.

Sounds a lot like Rashard. Is Rasheed his twin brother?

I don't think this issue can be touched on without getting somewhat political, so I will try to tread lightly based on what I read a year or two ago. A trend of tax-and-spend, particularly on higher ed, finally took it's toll in Illinois, and the state had to drastically reduce funding. I don't know if that explains the long-term decline, but it may very well be responsible for the 5-year drop.

i am sure that has something to do with it. Perhaps contributing to tuition increases. However, I suppose you would have to see the enrollment changes at other Illinois state universities to tell if the declines at SIU are more severe than average.

Rashard is third on the team in FG% this year behind Rauno and Darral. Last year and the year before, he was 4th. He's averaging 7.5 and 6 over the last 6 in just 15 mpg.

Rashard is a strong run and jump athlete with skills and guts. What he is not is tall for his position and a volume scorer.

I'm glad he chose us over the top team in the AAC. He's smart too.
