I think Higgins can be a very good ref. I believe he has changed somewhat in his attitude towards HCGM in the last several years. I also believe that EVERY ref has some pre conceived ideas about coaches and or teams before they step onto the court. These always have some affect on how they view the game. I am one of the easiest to get along with people I know (no sarcasm intended) but there are some people I just don't like very well. In judgement calls I'm afraid a tie would go to the guy that didn't rub me the wrong way.

Of all the refs I love to complain about, Higgins is toward the bottom of the list.

Of all the refs I love to poke fun at, Higgins is toward the top of that list.

            This works on several levels.

None of them address the problem of Janssen officiating WSU games.

I think that Ggg has also made some modifications during his time here. He's achieved some of his dreams so he's loosened up a little, andhe doesn't grind/press as much. The refs may have also modified their opinions and reactions toward him at the same time.

                1. I just have trouble with Mr. Higgins supposed association with a university in his home town.
I think he's as good a ref as there is. I watch a lot of big 12 and March madness games and he does an excellent job, but in a tight game all it takes is one or two "missed" calls to effect the outcome of the game.
                2. We all need to remember Gregg's mantra "You need to be 10 points better than the refs."

I don't think he can officiate any Creighton games.
He is a good Ref and Wichita is an easy trip for him and he likes doing games here. Its a good deal we get him as often as we do.

He officiated some Creighton Valley games. Creighton fans would probably disagree that he ever favored them. In fact, many thought he was unduly hard on them. Higgins doesn't officiate Big East games, so he no longer refs their games.

Any opinion that Higgins favored Creighton probably is simply because he lives here, the refs I've met don't favor anyone. If they did, they wouldn't have the job very long. Moreover, Higgins went to Kearney State and was known to be a Husker honk. Janssen would be the official, if any, that was soft on Creighton. Paul Janssen reffed more Creighton games than anyone else.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Hey... I have some in-laws that went to "drU.N.K." Don't know anything about the school (other than it is Nebraska's historical equivalent to Emporia State), but my sincere, heart-felt condolences to anyone who finds themselves stuck living in the "tri-cities" of Nebraska for any length of time. That whole part of the state has a vibe similar to what the Coen brothers were going for in the movie Fargo, minus the accents and the snow volumes. Horrible area to live or spend any length of time, although Kearney seems like the least worst of the three towns, if you had to choose.

Kissinger is very good as is Higgins.

Janssen drives me nuts with his aniticipation calls, but the worst ref I've seen at Koch is Zelton Sneed

Every time I hear someone yell "Higgiiiiinns!" I think, "you're an idiot." Higgins is a good ref, he just gets singled out because he's the one ref that half informed basketball fans know. Of course, yes, he makes bad calls as often as any ref. As a server, every once in a while I forget someone's appetizer order. Doesn't mean I'm a bad server.

It would make a lot more sense to hear people yell, "Jansseeennn!" Am I wrong? Converse.
What you said is pretty much truth. Higgins is one of, if not, the best men's Division I college basketball official. There's a reason he always works deep into March. I think it's great that the Missouri Valley Conference gets guys like that every so often. Now, as far as some of the other "big names" that we get, I'm not so sold on. I do like Keith Kimble, who we've had a few times. Winston Stith is another good official.

Believe me, most DI basketball officials have an ego. You almost have to, to not only get and stay at that level. You've got to believe that you are the best, and convince everybody else that you're the best as well. It's pretty much the same at the top of all sports.

Higgins is just extremely easy to make fun of because of his overwhelming desire to BE the show. I think this desire has decreased dramatically over the years compared to when I first remember seeing him.

Who would you say is the most dramatic, over the top between these 3: Higgins, Ed Hightower, Ted Valentine.
