The loudest points of the game tonight were:
    1) the kiss cam
    2) the Ashley Furniture contest
    3) the Dunkin Donuts slam dunk contest
    4) Marshall begging the fans to make noise after his team shut out the opposition the first 8 minutes of the game

    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

Zach Brown's quote in the Eagle is spot on. Crowd is tired of watching the Shocks beat people by 30. How many times can you watch the Globetrotters beat the Generals?

The home schedule has been worse than awful. Tulsa, Long Beach State, and SLU should have been interesting. Unfortunately I have seen better basketball from traveling preseason all star teams. .

It is hard to get pumped up about it after it continues to happen.

            Couple questins.

How do you get a crowd involved when it's 36-9 at the half. ? I'd love it if the crowd stood and clapped and yelled and really got loud over great D, but when it's 10 minutes before3 the visitors get a basket, the crowd is burned out instead of enthused.

How can you sell a GA ticket that a student has claimed, but the student blows off showing up?

Can't cut down the number of tickets allocated to students. That was part of the deal when the students agreed to some tuition money going toward the CKA renovation.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

At the expense of possibly being told to stfu, I'll chime in with perspective from afar.

              Relax. What do you expect?

Bobbb is right. To date, the home slate for the Shockers has heen horrendous. Your four best opponents have all been on the road and the home slate has included a D-2 and a bunch of low level D-1 bottomfeeders. Sure, the most vocal, passionate fans can get up for this, but not the bulk of fans, from any school. Like it or not, this perceived apathy would even happen at Kentucky if the home schedule looked like this.

This happens everywhere. The Jayhawks played UMKC last night. Even living in Omaha, I was offered free tickets to that game, twice. By two different "die hard" "go to every game Jayhawk fans." I'm going to the Chiefs game tomorrow night so I turned down the Kansas basketball tickets. That said, I watched the game for a moment, it was a morgue in AFH. I watched the Shocker game for a moment as well. These games don't do much for most.

You guys just need to take a breath and relax, the good part of the home season starts now. You have two B-12 foes, Oklahoma at IBA, OSU on the road, another dog game against the bad SDSU, then the conference slate. Koch arena will be full and loud the entire conference season, count on it. With a new team, plus scheduling to accomodate B4A, the nonconference home schedule was weak. It all gets better now.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

There's really not much more to be said as everything has been said and repeated--over and over. But, hey, I'll go ahead and be redundant.

It is sad to see so many empty student seats. And it is appalling to see so many seats empty THROUGHOUT THE ARENA---entire swaths of seats supposedly paid for by people with means. it's NOT just the students. Maybe it's because so many games are on tv these days. I remember when only away games were on tv and you had to pay extra to watch home games through Shockervision (or whatever it was called).

The competition has been AWFUL. However, I think this is one of the most EXCITING Shocker teams we've seen for awhile. it has been fun to watch this team evolve.

The in-house experience is not good at this time. The LAME time out "competitions" kill the energy. Just let the band play. Shocker Sound is under a LOT of restraints from the athletic department. The students who come are distracted by way too many CELL PHONES. Too many other students would rather hang out in the dorms or wherever they hang out doing anything else. The entertainment dollar is stretched these days---and largely by the internet.

WSU is a non-traditional university---get used to it President Bardo. There may be 15,000 students...but a LARGE POPULATION of them are non-traditional students who have jobs off campus or live at home. Student pride and involvement is not strong for many activities. In fact, MORALE is low across campus. Wave after wave of bad news has been coming at the campus for a few years concerning spending cuts and hiring freezes. Student retention rates are worrisome for the administration. All of this leads to a culture of "why should I care"? It's sad..and this team and coach deserve BETTER...but many students are tired of being asked to step up when they aren't seeing anyone step up for them. They are also a from a generation that hasn't been as involved with extra curricular activities in their high schools (high school attendance at events is down as well across the country). They don't have a rah-rah culture. Times are changing....all of this needs to be addressed on all levels...and the university has to do more to create pride in the product.

The students get free tickets, but the cost is included in their per credit hour fees. If that cost was itemized and they were forced to pay that separately, I can almost guarantee there would be protests since there are only 1000 seats for 15,000 students that paid.

                  It's unfair!!! Protest!!!

Yes, this is an issue, but Shockernet's very own game thread about the same game is only 5 pages deep... The opponents and the blow out nature of these guys is affecting all parties.

May I suggest as a great nonpartisan gesture of unity, we ask Trump to renegotiate our contract with the students, because it obviously is unbalanced and one sided towards the students. I'm sure that he can find the time. :)

Did anyone notice the complete ineptitude of SLU last night? Literally they had guys screening for each other. Literally, at the same time, 2 guys, setting a screen for........well nobody because neither of them used it. At one point in the first half #20 was walking from spot to spot looking for someone to help him understand what to do. And on the rare occasion they got a decent look at the rim....they couldn't hit the rim. Its really hard to be excited that the home team was 'pitching a shutout' when really, the visiting team was shutting themselves out. SLU was beyond horrendous, the rest of the non-con slate has been....horrendous. I'm personally getting tired of season ticket prices going up 10-15% every year just for the right to buy my tickets for the only home game worth a damn at Intrust. Tickets aren't cheap, I expect a product that reflects the price I pay. So far....nope. I'm not asking for Kentucky/KU/Duke/UNC every night in the round house, but good lord, give me 1-2 games a season IN KOCH ARENA that are worth getting excited about. The competition has sucked, the product on the floor for WSU is exciting, but the overall product of the game has been brutal. 3 other season ticket holders that I talk to have all said the same, either the games need to get better or I will seriously begin questioning writing that check every year.

Does the athletic department give a $*** about the empty seats? How did they fill them during the turgeon years? Weren't $1000 scholarships given away each game? Give away free books for a semester, something. I dunno? The team deserves better.

                          Do something.

I guess I'm not as passionate about this as others....if these young men need a packed house to perform, then we have underestimated not only their resolve but also their coaching.

Due to obligation restraints, I have stopped having season tickets(right when the Marshall Era began...timing, eh?) BUT I never pass up a chance to snatch up single game seats...but it NEVER enters my mind how big the crowd is or how loud.

This situation is good for you then. Cheap tickets to every home game so far.

Like most on here, I have no answer for this.

Marshallville has been doing everything they possibly can. They've been fantastic. I follow their Twitter account, and they tweet multiple times about tickets still being available before a game and encourage everyone to get their tickets. They have themed games like the ugly Christmas sweater one last night. They had a coat drive last night. All this work and not enough students give a crap.

I think the apathy we see right now is a combination of things. Fred and Ron are gone. The Valley has been just putrid ever since Creighton left, which also means no more huge rivalry game every year. Add in our non-con schedule so far this year where the lowest margin of victory at home has been 27 points, and I can see why it's a library in there. Hell, last night I almost forgot there was a game, and I just had it on while I made dinner. I wasn't glued to the TV for every second of action like I usually am. I hate admitting that...
