That's not that unusual for a home game....a lot of shocker netters are at the game and not on their phone.

I'll posit that another factor is also at play here.

I have a younger brother. He attends high school at the same school I graduated from. The basketball team now is as talented as it's ever been, but only two or three rows of students attend each game. When I was in high school, around ten years ago, there were five-six rows for each game at least. It was a big deal. Why is that? Did students all of a sudden become spoiled in that their school's basketball team was so good? I doubt it. The same goes for me in college: going to WSU games with my friends was something we all expected to do. Those were our social plans.

My theory is this: students who don't play sports are much less interested in sports than students who didn't play sports used to be (there's a grammatical error in there somewhere). For me, that was my entertainment and social outlet on a Tuesday/Friday night in high school. I think demand, as far as hardcore sports fandom goes, just isn't there. While television contracts have become much bigger, I think that's in large part due to those live sporting events becoming more readily available to those who are already interested. And anyone who has Cox can watch a home game from their residence instead of going to the game, which I think plays a big role in undermining actual attendance.

Here are some interesting articles to read that I feel back up that assessment:

          Article: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...line/29007681/

Interest in the sport, game time, ticket price, opponent and team record were the most influential in students' determination whether to attend a sporting event.
          Source: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/...iative2015.pdf

          Another study: http://skyline.bigskyconf.com/cgi/vi...ontext=journal

Most (58.9%) students “strongly agreed” or “agreed” that “there are plenty of things to do in Flagstaff on the weekends.” Interestingly, this supports the literature that says metropolitan areas had lower sports attendance rates because there are competing activities to choose from (Humphreys, Paul, & Weinbach, 2012)

This, right here, is exactly it. When I played, I was told that it doesn't matter if there is 10 people or 1000 people in the stands, that you're not playing for the crowd. This whole thread is pretty ridiculous honestly. Not everyone that goes to a game is going to be up cheering, clapping their hands, stomping their feet, and hooting and hollering. I certainly don't need to do any of those things at a basketball game to prove I care about the team I support. Also, there a lot of people that just flat aren't able to do stuff like that, and just come to enjoy the game. I would say if HCGM and the players are that worried about the attendance and crowd participation at a game, then there is a lot more problems on the surface than we know about. Unpopular opinion I know, but I don't really care. If people want to just sit quietly and enjoy the game without hooting and hollering and making an ass out of themselves, then they have that right.

                D-2, 236, 183, 215, 318, 304.

According to realtimerpi.com, these are the rpi's of the six home opponents.

This, as much as anything else, is why you might have fewer students attending and less engaged crowds. Relax, the home competition gets better now, students will start filling up their sections and the ticket holders will get louder.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

                  It's pretty funny isn't it?

Maybe we should ask Marshall to let up on the other team earlier so it appeases those that would rather have nail biters every night?

To be fair, I was rooting for the other team to score.

Marshall said he would be done coaching if they ever pitched a shutout.

                      From St Lou dispatch....
A high point in the second half, Moore made all four of his shots, including three 3-pointers.

“Being a freshman and having watched Wichita State, being in this environment was amazing,” he said. “But you learn from it. I’ve not ever played in an environment like this. It’s as tough as it will get on the road, so when we go to places like VCU and Dayton we’ll be ready for that type of environment.”

So, our expectations are pretty high I guess. I still think no showing in that amount is inexcusable. :)

And you may be right and this isn't a future issue. However your earlier comment said that this isn't an issue to you. I think that it probably an issue to Gregg and the team and while 3 Mill. is a great thing to make sure that Gregg is happy, I have a feeling that fan/student passion as much of a tug on Gregg to be happy at Wichita State as the 3Mill.+.

I don't even care if they sell them as season tickets or as general admission. The students have proven themselves incapable of filling the amount of seats they have been allotted. Yes, in game marketing as well as pre-game marketing should be better, and it MAY help, but it's not going to double the student turnout, and we need at least that to fill the "student" section. Sell the other half. Sell them early. Sell them often. Don't wait until two days before the game. Sell them as individual tickets at the beginning of the year. Sell them as season tickets. Just sell them. Or give some of them away. There are a lot of charitable foundations around this city that would love to be able to send groups to fill those seats. So you won't make any money giving them away? You're not making any leaving them empty either. And for @Shoxxxx: , this isn't an attack on the students that are there for the games. It's simply the fact that there aren't enough of those students.

One thing to keep in mind, even with our "lame crowds", its still one of the toughest places to play. I think we spoiled ourselves. I agree we should sell every game out and be extremely loud the whole game, but that won't happen.

Looking at that from the St. Louis side, the crowd intimidated them. This isn't the first time I've read a quote like that this year during these blowout wins. The crowd is still one of the best in the country. I noticed a play last night where a St. Louis guard was coming up the court and calling for a man that was in the corner to come up to the top. After yelling a couple of times, he got his attention and the man in the corner visibly signaled that he couldn't hear anything.

Yes, It can be better, but its still a heck of an environment in comparison to pretty much all of D1 (few exceptions)

When does the SGA agreement run out with Athletics? I honestly don't know.
