Sounds like they think they will have a shot, but also recognize they need to play very well to beat the Shockers.

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

"Battle 4 Atlantis Begins Wednesday with LSU" - LSUSports.net

by Kent Lowe (@LSUkent), Sr. Associate SID

"PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – The LSU men’s basketball team went through a couple of hours of practice and scouting report work Tuesday in preparation for Wednesday’s opening round game in the sixth “Battle 4 Atlantis” against Wichita State.

The event will take place in the converted Imperial Arena which seats about 3,500 for the contests. The Tigers and Wichita State will play in the opening contest at 11 a.m. CT (Noon local) and will be televised by ESPN2 with Dave O’Brien and Dan Dakich on the call...

...“We are looking forward to seeing how our team reacts to this tournament – the environment, the quality of the opponents,” said Gregg Marshall, head coach of Wichita State, after his team’s workout. “We are a fairly inexperienced team, but we have shown a lot of promise in our first four games. We have been working hard since this summer with our exhibition tour. Now, we get a chance to play some of the finer basketball programs in the country and see how we measure up.”

With all of the blowouts and our pedigree, I did.

What I didn't see coming was that people are laying it on WSU right now. Line has already moved to -11.5

I got us by 17, so there's plenty more room for that line to move. :)

I'm curious to see what the over/under is set at. I could see this one playing in the 80 to 70ish range...or i can see it being 75-55 as well.

Game preview for LSU is up on ShockerHoops. Great photos from previous games, and some interesting statistics with keys to victory.

I haven't seen LSU play this year but they will bring some good size to the fray.

                            LSU Roster

Here are LSU's stats for their 3 games this season.

Not inlcuded in those stats is 6-9 Jr Craig Victor who has been suspended for LSU's 1st 3 games for violation of team rules and is expected to return to the lineup although I do not know if he will start. Victor tansferred from Arizona and became eligible in last season's 2nd semester. He played in 25 games for LSU last year starting 24 averaging 11.5 PPG and 5.6 RPG.

LSU is shooting 50.5% from tthe field and including 22-56 treys for 39.3%. However, their FT shooting has been sub-par at 61.9%. Despite their size they are only outrebounding their opponents 38 to 37 per game so far this year.

LSU is similar to WSU in that they only have 2 seniors who play very little. Only a combined 4 minutes on the season.

Clearly this game presents a major step up in competition for the Shocks and will be the kind of challenge we have been waiting for to take the measure of this Shocker team.

I agree with @_kai_ that the key may well be the level of defensive intensity and pressure the Shocks can bring to bear combined with a strong rebounding effort. Hopefully, the refs allow them to play a little more than they did in the MES game. Need to avoid an off-shooting game as well.

I think the main statistic is going to be rebounding margin that separates the two teams. By the stats, LSU is a pretty poor rebounding team by only outrebounding opponents by 1 per game, and if you look at their competition to get those stats, it's pretty bad. Wofford, Southern Miss & North Florida each only have 1 guy 6'10" or taller. The Tigers are barely outrebounding teams with no size. I don't think they're going to handle the post rotation of the Shox well at all.

I would mention a couple of caveats to that. Craig Victor is back and he should add some rebounding depth to LSU's team. The other thing is we are dealing with pretty small sample sizes early in the season so statistical analysis is a little bit iffy at this point. I think both teams are kind of in the same boat at this point. Trying to find out what they are really made of.

One thing I like about this Shocker team so far this year is they really seem to listen to what the Coaching staff is telling them and they are taking it to heart. I think 3G will have them adequately focused. Perhaps a bigger concern would be to keep them from being too hyped up.
