The season is young, you guys are right. But look at the schedule and tell me how WSU builds an At-Large Resume from what you see. .

Here is the options I see:

1. Be very, very good. Dominate valley and have a 26-4 or 25-5 record at end of regular season.

2. Hope the OSU/OU exceed preseason expectations and WSU wins both. Hope that UNI/ISUR finish strong in non-conference and give WSU a chance for quality wins in conference. It would be helpful if the rest of MVC would finish strong.

3. Win STL

Might be a good time re-iterate why it is more satisfying and logical to watch the analytic rankings like kenpom, sagarin and haslam, than the weekly popularity contests (which are themselves nice to be mentioned in regardless). We're far enough into the season that they are now becoming statistically relevant, and they are arguably the most valid method by which to make a basis of comparison.

In light of such, via kenpom - a widely respected site utilized in the media and by the selection committee - we are 23rd. That's three spots behind AP#13 Indiana, four behind AP#11 UCLA, one in front of AP#16 Arizona, four in front of AP#19 Iowa State, sixteen in front of AP#21 Rhode Island, and so on and so forth. By his calculations, we have the 5th best defense in the country.

It's just two games guys.

My only concern is this: The Selection Committee doesn't seem to give a poop about kenpom. Making the NCAAs is what the regular season is truly all about and getting the best seed possible. I was not disappointed in our play in Atlantis, just disappointed that we couldn't get a good win because we're suddenly out of options. Just unfortunate that our schedule is the way it is. We aren't a bad team, I know that.

Once again, I blame the MVC. GET US OUT!

1. OU, OSU and LSU finish as Top 50 and/or Top 100 teams via KenPom

2. UNI, ISUr and MSU from the Valley finish in KenPom's Top 100

Shockers finish regular season at 26-4, KenPom ranking in the 20's and victories over the teams listed above be good enough for an invite to the Big Dance?

Not have the boat anchors this year is huge, the last couple of years the top of the league was pretty good, but there were a lot of really bad teams dragging the league down.
