He isn't a Fred but he handled the ball well, made some nice passes (several ended up in turnovers or missed layups), and showed leadership at the end of the game. We will see what happens next Friday. Im not sure if he will be the type of point guard to take the ball to the rim. He most likely will pull up and shoot a short shot or pass to an open man.
I think fans have to adjust their expectations of what a point guard looks like, but I was very happy with CF because he plays point the way I like to see it done.

Granted I've been on the Frankamp bandwagon for a while so it's possible I'm biased but I thought the team ran the smoothest and looked the best with him at the point. Kennedy, Dahl, and Marshall had a lot of positive things to say about his calming presence down the stretch of that game.
Obviously it's an exhibition game, against a surprisingly good but still low level opponent, so I'm not taking a victory lap or anything but I was pleasantly surprised by what he showed. He played solid D, tipped or stole several balls, grabbed his share of rebounds, hit shots, dished a few assists (could have been more), and limited turnovers (which we know he can do) but was also more aggressive. He penetrated more which created some open looks for his teammates and he just shares the ball in general. I really liked the way we passed today. Very unselfishly just kept it moving, looking for the best shot. That starts with Frankamp, Shamet, Reaves, Smith, etc.
Not to mention when we needed a bucket for some breathing room he knocked down a big jumper. Gotta make that 1 & 1 but I'm confident with him going to he line late.
Again, it's an exhibition game against Augusta so there's still plenty that can happen. I just don't understand how this game backs up the idea that he can't be the point guard this year.
If you guys honestly think that Conner is as good or better than Clevin, Joe, Malcolm, or Fred as I said I'll agree to disagree. Free the kid up and let him be a sniper.

I watched him in person in Montreal, and I watched today - love the kid, love the shooter, love the form... but he's not a PG. I hope I'm wrong.

Some like Conner and some don't think he is the answer at PG. I'm
sure he would rather be playing SG but it's GM that believes he is our
best option at PG. I agree with the coach. Credit Conner for doing
what is best for the team. I thought he had a very good all around game
today and will only get better the more he plays there. His play is not
what concerns me the most on this team. Our center play is good. LS
is good. We have to have better play at the 3/4 positions and I believe
we will get it down the line although there will be more games like today
until mid season. I really like what I see in AR. Tremendous upside I believe.

PS - and I'm honestly not trolling or baiting people, I genuinely want to know:
How would you rank Conner - AS A POINT GUARD, NOT A SHOOTING GUARD - against Clevin Hannah, Joe Ragland, Malcolm Armstead, and Fred Van Vleet?
I think his ceiling - which is all that is important here - is last among that group. I think that Daishon, Austin, and Landry have higher ceilings.

Against recent PGs, Fred is far above the rest. Malcolm plays very different basketball than Conner, so they are difficult to compare. Joe and Clevin are a little easier. I think Conner as a junior is roughly as good as Clevin as a junior and will probably be better than Joe was as a junior.Livin the dream

I said this a long time ago but Conner was the de facto point guard at North. Most of their offense depended on him creating opportunities off bounce for himself or his teammates. He had the ball in his hands the majority of the time. I think he's often misdiagnosed as a spot up shooter who runs around screens and waits for the pass from teammates. He can do that, I just think he's better off the bounce. Just my opinion.
