Ok, for various reasons I've mostly tried to stay away from this topic for a couple of days (not that anyone should or does care), mostly because I wanted to see what happened.
I actually did something similar as a young 20 something kid coaching junior high basketball in the Parochial League many moons ago. I had no good assistants (or bad..or any lol) to hold me back. It required one of the other officials to restrain me. 20 some years late I am still embarrassed.
I was stunned when it happened. I'm no less stunned now. Gregg was out of line, he knows it, he's been punished.
He didn't have a leash....I'd say he has one now. He KNOWS this was a serious event, no matter what he was thinking.
The situation, in my humble opinion, was handled BEAUTIFULLY by our Athletic Director. He managed Gregg. Not an easy job. The interim should be removed, immediately.
If you weren't aware of Gregg's "passion", you should be now.
The likelihood of him retiring at WSU increased.
I'm still very happy and proud he's my coach.
The positives, the manner in which the program has been run, the kids graduating, keeping their noses clean, and yes, the successes, far outweigh what happened.
Certainly none of us want to see that again, under any circumstances. But even if what happened is 100% indefensible, all the other positives warrant a 2nd chance.
You do not want to see sausage being made.
This incident is 100% on Gregg. And yes, while he is the face of the program, you MUST be proud of every other Shocker in attendance. Gregg was the only one who embarrassed himself.
I am still very proud to support the University, the program, the student athletes and yes, Gregg Marshall. Yes this was horrible and I understand there are repercussions but the positives far outweigh this one isolated event.
