Exactly. It is in Canada - and the players learned how serious it is to get after it.

    • It wasn't as bad to me watching it the second time (embarrassing nonetheless), but he owes Coach Brown an apology for being a dick and pushing him multiple times.

We were playing a rec team in a rec league in Canada in August.

Gregg (and the Gregg Can't Do No Wrong Fan Club) sure acted like it was Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

It isn't as bad because you know how it ended. Hindsight always helps.

Wally Cleaver and Eddie Haskell did an...interesting job as commentators.

            • I thought the guys started to play a lot better even before coach got tossed.

-I'd still like to see him shoot more but Frankamp has been good.
-McDuffie had his moments this game where he looked incredible.
-Landry has shown flashes and I know he'll cut down on the turnovers.
-Willis and Daishon need to slow down and let the game come to them but the potential is there.
-Brown looks improved in ball handling and slashing. Getting to the free throw line should be a big part of his game this year.
-Not sure what to think of Rashard or Rauno. I feel like both had more bad moments than good, especially Rauno.
-Shaq had me scratching my head quite a bit but looks like he's improved his shooting range and variety of post moves.
-Athleticism abounds. When the coaches harness it all they are going to be a difficult team to score against.

Fred, Ron, and Evan didn't need much prompting to play angry. So far it seems like this group does. It's going to be fascinating to watch this team progress.

              • I don't see a meniscus being anything like a hamstring. If they do surgery by the end of this month, they can shave off the cartilage that is damaged and bothering him, so it doesn't continue to bother him. He'll be up and at it before October practice begins. I could be wrong but to my knowledge, this isn't a long term thing.

Because our coach has a history for being fiery and having a type A personality, it's automatically ok for him to react like that? That's what it sounds like to me.

He's done great things for this program and will continue to do so. But you can't honestly think that looked good can you?
No, of course it didn't look good. No one is going to argue that it looked great. So this is all about appearances and perceptions instead of real things, then? Dude, there are MUCH more important things to be worried about in life than what a few people think of a college basketball coach who is already known for being passionate and emotional.

Coach gets fired up and makes a mistake and instantly the Righteous Brigade starts lobbing their Holy Hand Grenades into this thread and making this into a WWWWWAAAAAYYYYYYY bigger deal than it really is. Coach got fired up. He fired up his players. Now maybe some of them understand what Play Angry means. This could be the thing the players rally around for the rest of the season. This is nothing Marshall should be fined or suspended for. He'll probably talk to his players and coaches.

Can we move on now? Or do we need to talk about appearances and perceptions more?

That **** was always embarrassing. I could never understand why it was accepted.

If football, basketball, or soccer coaches got thrown as often they wouldn't have a job.

I hardly see other college baseball coaches get run.

                      • Perception is big. Ask Gene. When the right people disagree with the way a coach acts, it has direct affects on the program. So yes, perception is a big deal. And if the 'right' people happen to be taken aback by this, they might not be so willing to up the ante next time GGG flirts w/Alabama.

                        • Don't see it mentioned but #12 on McGill shoves Kelly under the basket which seems to trigger the reaction by Marshall.

                          • yes the shove seemed to be the ignition. But you have to acknowledge the extra effort put into the physicality of the box out by Kelly. That looked to me exactly like a rec league play where a guy was tired of getting beat on with no foul calls so he was going to hit him as hard as he could in a legal manner.

The only exception is if he felt our players were being targeted or in imminent danger of being injured. It didn't appear that way. Hopefully we can move on and have a successful season regardless.
An exhibition game in Canada in August is the perfect time to do this.
