The redbirds look similar numbers wise to WSU last year... Strong defense, not so good offense

I guess I just don't like WSU and ISUr being lumped together. WSU is a team that can play with anyone in the country. ISUr is a team similar to those pesky 12 and 13 seeds that are popular upset picks who might get to the Sweet 16.

ISUr peaked at 34 in KenPom January 21st after a home victory against Drake and have managed to drop over 20 spots since then. They might have been a real contender at some point this season, but they are not good right now. Their KenPom numbers are actually pretty similar to Dayton from last year.

Several words come to mind about ISU offense lately, but dangerous isnt one of them.

Put Saint Mary's in the tournament last year.

The ask needs to be for better performance from the Selection Committee, not undefeated seasons from non-P5 teams.
Yep, let's look at past mistakes and compare them to this year. If you look like a "dangerous" team, doesn't that defeat the whole argument of them not deserving to be in? Rothstein has gone Palm looney lately. What a shame.

I've heard people say Palm has been very accurate about WSU's seed lately. Well he's underselling WSU just like the committee has done. The committee is the one getting it wrong. Their seeding, especially the last few years overall, has been putrid.

St Mary's should have replaced Syracuse last year.

I am more impressed with bracketologists that get close with their January and February brackets.

When was the last time WSU was a betting underdog?

Great question. Were we favored in the Miami game last year?

                Otherwise, it's been A WHILE.

We were +1 against Arizona depending on the book.

Not so fast. Yes, both had good defense. But Wichita State didn't just have a "good" defense. They had the best defense. The single best defense in the entire country. Numero Uno. And our offense was #67, while Illinois State is right around 150.

So yes, they are similar. But they are similar in the way Seth Curry is similar to Steph Curry.

That number one D rank meant something. There was a Pac12 guy that visited last year that said that stat was meaningless when playing someone from their conference. The same 'kinda talk we hear from local pointy-headed pundits no different from Chicken followers.

Unless I was misunderstanding this person, he was inferring the Shockers achievement occurred at a "different level" and therefore had no value. It was extra special to witness 'Zona get throttled!

Wichita State and Illinois State look like dangerous NCAA teams, but so did Saint Mary's last season. Can't leave things up to chance.
He followed that up with this one:

                            Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein

No mid-major conference tournament feels more anticipated than the MVC. Wichita State and Illinois State are on a straight collision course.
                            To which I replied:

                            @RoyalShock:
@JonRothstein One of those teams is cruising along like an 18-wheeler. The other more like a Prius. Collision indeed.

Wasn't trying to imply they are as good as the shocks last year ( who had phenomenal defense), but the offense was a definite weakness of that team and cost them more than a couple games when it faltered.

How about using a single term to identify Gottlieb and Palm. I suggest the term "Palm-Lube"
