Just wanted to say congrats on another awesome season! Very glad and proud to finally join you guys at the top of the Valley. IMHO both our teams deserve it, we raced out early in the conference and held on, only beating on each other (especially that destruction you guys gave us at the Roundhouse.)

Arch Madness will be crazy competitive as usual. Head to head, beyond the W-L record, while our numbers look a little better to the naked eye, you have no bad losses and a few "name" wins where we have at least two of the former and only a couple of the latter. Plus with you guys being ranked, when it comes to at-large chances I think you guys have the in-road over us.

Therefore I am really hoping for the best case scenario for the Valley getting two teams in, which seems to be our teams squaring off on Sunday, with us winning. We get the auto, and the at-large goes to you. I think if that's the Sunday result, we both get in. Let's just do what we can to make that happen!

Great season again! Best of luck moving forward, hope we can meetup in a hell of a battle on Sunday, and best of luck to you guys in the postseason!
I'll buy in to everything you said except I'm not totally on board with the Redbirds beating the Shocks on Sunday. I want a Shocker win and then hope like hell that the Shock and Redbirds make the dance. It's not like things have been a bed of roses for the Shocks in St. Louis.

If the Shocks and Redbirds do meet on Sunday I expect an all out war. Whoever wins that game will have earned it the hard way.

        • Every year the Committee has to leave some good teams out. I have a suggestion: Since the little leagues have their tourney early (this coming week), the Committee can arrange 8 last place auto-bids to play on Thursday and 8 next to last place to play on Friday before the Selection Sunday, thus have 8 more bids for the field of 64. Losing teams still share NCAA tourney money.

First, there are some smaller conferences that play their tournaments later, so that won't work.

Second, it's the same debate as whether the teams sent to Dayton should all be small-conference champions. Those small-conference champions already did their job, winning their auto-bid. Why the hell should they have to do more work to make the main draw? We don't need 8 more spots that would most certainly be filled by the K-States of the world.

              1. Make them play early
              2. This is done to bring more good teams into the tournament. The weak auto-bids get their shared money, which they can't get otherwise. While one of the extra 8 bids may be KSU, but then there are Illinois State, Winthdrop, UNC Wilmington, ...and WSU if they don't win their conference tournaments

I use to be a proponent of making all of the 16s play in Dayton. After the field has expanded, I am absolutely against the idea now. It is increasingly becoming the case that expanding the field is used to only add more P5s.

They are P5 bias anyway. The expansion hopefully allows them to add some mid-majors into the field. In addition, the tournament would become more competitive with 8 less weak teams (eliminated in the play-in)

                  • More and more we move to a power conference tournament.

Four years ago a midmajor could get a number 1 seed with 2 losses. Now, only if they go undefeated.
                    We've gone from 10, to 7, to 6, to 4 midmajor at-large bids.
Midmajors have gone from competing for 2-4 seeds to competing for 7-11 seeds at best.

How many more years till no mid-major can even earn an at-large bid? How many years till even an undefeated mid-major team gets a 2 or 3 seed? How many years till a power conference team sneaks into the tournament with 15, 16 losses and a sub .500 record?

Unfortunately, this doesn't just apply to the MVC. The same bias would affect us in the AAC or MWC or A10. But the MVC will sink first, and we can't afford to be on that ship. It might be this year, it might be next year, it might be the year after that, but eventually no team from this conference will be able to earn an at-large bid, solely due to being in the conference.

You think the extra bids would go to non-P5s? Think again.

Meant to say 6 - just a little tired. My bad.
