There's not a single doubt in my mind that he will get drafted. He's got way too much upside not to. We all know these NBA guys are all about that "upside potential".

He measured really well yesterday, so I believe he opened some eyes on those who thought he was just a "good college player".

He could easily turn into a Tony Allen type player with better offensive upside.

The NBA has personnel who do nothing but watch film on these guys. I doubt they are surprised. They have a scouting report; they are just verifying in person what the report says from film: "How quick does he really transition? How quick can he get a shot off?" kind of things. What we see and acknowledge is probably of little interest to the scouts. It's why some not invited to the combine get personal try out invites; they want to verify what they have on the report because they see something in a player they can use.

Ok.
First off, Diallo didn't play much at KU, so he IS someone the scouts definitely needed to see.
Second, neither Simmons NOR Ingram went to the combine probably because there was nothing that the scouts needed to see. Their positions are already solidified. No one is saying, "I don't know...draft #1 or #13?"
As far as Hield, I am surprised that he didn't go, but he did get measurements. He said he was graduating, which reminds all that they've got more info on him (4 years) than Simmons.

Ellis is out of the draft? I bet not. If so, I bet it wasn't due to underwhelming at the combine as much as he is the poster child for underwhelming and he just solidified that impression.

Teams want the combine because they get a chance to interview these kids, which they can't do on film. They can get a feel for their personalities, ability to accept roles on a team, etc. Don't get me wrong, there IS value to the combine, but I think you assume the "surprises" that change draft order come from verticals and wingspan, and I believe it comes from something else. Let me ask it another way; were you surprised by RB's vertical? I wasn't. I didn't know the number, but I've seen him sky to block shots. So, I bet the scouts weren't surprised. Just now they have a number to compare to others.

In the vertical, I see Ron 24th out of 36 who tested. He will make it with grit, toughness and drive.

Melo Trimble had an un inspiring combine. 26" standing vert and 6'2" wingspan isn't going to help his cause. This would be an example of someone probably getting knocked out of consideration.
