Fred and Ron coming back says a lot more about these guys and about our program. Sure they could've taken their chances and maybe been second rounders, but they wanted one more shot at the title. Look at KU, they're losing 2 juniors this year in Seldon and Greene. Seldon might be a 2nd rounder, Greene probably won't get drafted. These guys, and many guys before them have no loyalty toward KU - it's a springboard to play at the next level. Personally, I'd rather have guys that are vested in the program and aren't looking for the first glimpse of a chance to move on to bigger things.

Edit: on second thought, Greene did kind of seem like a turd...

We get one in from TAMU and we lose one. There were over 500 Div. 1 transfers last year. It's a part of the game. TT was a 6' very quick point guard that could get a shot whenever he wanted to but was a streaky shooter who didn't pass well and played average defense imo. He didn't fit our mold. Our last transfer transferred to Mercer. We will see where TT goes.

WHERE in any of that was I critical????
Do YOU not think these were some good players who left???And yet MAYBE because it was NOT a good fit, or they were not ready, or they wanted more time...
Jump off that high horse a bit.

We've had an elite PG and SG duo for 4-5 years now, with one of those years the elite PG is backing up another Elite Senior transfer PG.... and we have a revolving door at guard? No. We have a revolving door on the bench.
I feel like people are just being negative to try and be negative about this "transfer" problem at guard.
If we had players that were getting 20+ minutes a game transferring out, then let's talk about a "transfer" problem. If the guys transferring out are bench warmers, that's just how college basketball works now. If we had our Seniors transferring out to go play elsewhere, there's a problem. If we're ISUR and Senior center transfers out, we have a problem. If we're Missouri State and lose our starting guards, we have a problem. If we have a kids who get less than 3 minutes a game during the year transfer, that's not a problem.

All kids with a chance to play college ball want to play, not sit the bench. When reality sets in and they realize they're notthe top dog, they have 2 choices, tough it out or go play somewhere else. It happens at all schools of all levels, this is not a WSU problem.

In fact, their draft status probably dropped this year. Not only did they lose last year's payday, they are probably set up for lower paydays than if they had declared last year.

1) We pay our coach a lot of $$$ each year to evaluate talent. No coach is perfect, but when you seem to have continual problems in a particular area, as evidenced by recruiting players to a particular position (PG) then asking players who play a particular position to leave, it indicates to me that the underlying cause of the problem needs to be addressed so that our basketball program is not only not wasting scholarships, but also not wasting player's time.
2) HCGM is paid multi-millions of dollars per year. Maybe I'm being tough on him, but I would expect that he's a little more sophisticated than the players he is recruiting (since they're young men - not fully grown up emotionally), so I do not expect players he has recruited for a specific purpose in effect be fired from their jobs because they didn't fit. Rather, I expect HCGM to do a better job of evaluating talent and realizing when players don't fit into his system and which players do, so that we obtain the best players for our system.
3) Other teams with other coaches probably notice who is transferring out as well. Given our track record with shoot-first HS PG's, I expect that the metrics will be used against us in recruiting and could even be used, in general, negatively against us 'Marshall doesn't know how to recruit, why he recruited X, Y, and Z. He promised them lots of playing time, even though they didn't fit into his system and later told X, Y and Z they either needed to leave or sit at the end of the bench. I don't do things like that, I promise you that you will play if you sign with us.' If I'm not mistaken, a variant of this was employed by a number of coaches (most notably Arizona State) when we tried to recruit Willis.
4) Coach needs to TRY to be as transparent and fair with all his players. Coach put TT at the end of the bench in a hot minute after putting him in a position where he could not succeed. He also tolerated sub-optimal play from one of our seniors and it was really a head-scratching experience to watch that. I don't see a whole lot of difference between TT's character and EW's character. Both did what they were told, were polite andwere well-spoken. If we are going to make lineup changes because players aren't producing, why wasn't the same standard enforced across the board? I think EW should have been the first player coming off the bench, but I also think he should have been coming off the bench, especially in light of his dismal performance in Orlando (which is where TT cut his throat) as well as the fact that he was a senior who wasn't progressing in terms of production.
Bottom line is that if we are paying him top ten money, he needs to earn his money by being a little more careful who he recruits for a particular position and being consistent about what he expects from ALL players.

1. They conducted their due diligence - so they decided what likely opportunities were available were not worth coming out early. If the life changing opportunities were a "sure thing" then they would have came out.
2. I think Baker improved his position because of what he showed he could do in the summer. Which if he didn't come back wouldn't have got the opportunity.
3. The whole thing with Marshall-Alabama was going on which would have gave them even more of incentive to move on due to team uncertainty.
4. I can't say anything about Fred improving his prospects because of the injury - except he truly did prove how important he was to this team success and what type of a winner he is. Will that translate to people changing their perceptions about him or not. IDK.
