  • Another list to not be ignored is that Ron was a Wooden All American last year for finishing in the top 10 of the Wooden voting. And it's not just a couple of people picking this list. It's 26 people putting together a 20 player list, which then is voted on by 1000 writers and casters.

You heard it here first. We actually need to be unretiring jerseys.

Nice. Want to double-check all of the players and put together the real list? I would be very interested in seeing it. Seems like 12 different sources have 9 different reports.

              • If we retire them all do we go to alpha-numerics?
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

                      • Now if the purpose is to recognize the most historically significant and impactful players/coaches in program history Fred and Ron no doubt deserve a presence and the group of players currently occupying the rafters also are deserving of that recognition as, of course, do Coach Miller and will Coach Marshall when he is added.

                        • There has been some criticism regarding Ron's offense. He was more inconsistent this year. His 4 yr. 3 point career stats were 36, 38, 38, and 35 percent. What I think we can all agree on is that Ron was one of our best all around players. He led the team in rebounding, and blocked shots as a guard. And Ron is probably one of the best Shockers as a defender. Ron and Telele are two of the best (probably the best) defensive players I've ever seen. Ron is smart, has no weaknesses, and this is what will make him a pro for a long spell and one of the Top 10 Shockers ever.

This is true there is no clear cut guidelines, which is why there is a debate in the first place however I think some people on here would just like to retire every ones number I prefer that it be a very exclusive club made up of guys who were consensus all Americans and not Honorable mention All Americans. I agree the Fred and Ron a probably top 10 shockers of all time but to date being in the Top all time hasn't ensured that a number gets retired.

The point is Van Vleet asisst totals which you cited as a reason he should have his jersey retired are the exact same as a player whose jersey is not retired so not sure how you can put in one with out the other.

Watch that slippery slope argument, you might take a spill! Nobody is arguing that "every ones number" should be retired. This is about Ron and Fred.

We've been fortunate to witness this generation's elite studs and what they were able to accomplish, and they're gonna go down in fame.

And if in a few years, another couple ballers comes along and tops their performances ... well there's room up in the rafters for more jerseys yet. But that's a VERY high standard to meet.
