  • In the old days we were excited about freshmen coming in able to contribute. If we expect freshmen to contribute now we are in bad shape.

    • I'd like to hear a few of the 26 DS voters offer some rationale for suggesting him as a
starter over CF, LS or even JRS. I would imagine JRS would have had some pretty good
numbers at DS's CC. It's not impossible for him to jump a lot of other guys but without
even seeing him in person against other Shocker D1 level players I think it is wishful
thinking to believe he could start. He is going to have to be awfully good to jump CF or
LS. Great for us if he can but it's a pretty high bar if you ask me.

      • Has coach recruited a transfer PG that has not been a stud?

        • Finally, WuDrWu's concern for "things going terribly wrong" is that "Injuries to both Shamet and Frankamp. Also, someone who earned the same respect and showed the same potential as Austin will have to have left the program to make room for him." In reply:

Barring any serious injuries, IMO very unlikely LS and CF will average 40 minutes per game, so likely HC3G will need to substitute for them between 15-20 minutes per game. IMO AR is likely to capture a share of these minutes (just like LS did this past season before he was injured) given his competition of a Senior Walk-on, a JuCo transfer learning the system and a Sophomore who played himself to the end of the bench and behind the aforementioned walk-on this past season.

Disappointing that you "...have no early expectations for Austin, so I'm certain he will meet my expectations." and continue to deflect with such tripe as "If you are expecting an incoming freshman, coming off a surgery, to be a regular contributor to a top 25ish team, you ARE expecting near perfection." You may find the following information from those pesky NW Arkansas relatives informative -

AR's shoulder surgery is an arthroscopic procedure; after which he will keep his shoulder in a sling for 3 to 4 weeks and undergo "gentle, passive, pain-free range-of-motion exercises". When the sling is no longer worn he will do "motion and flexibility exercises and gradually start to strengthen his bicep". AR will begin "sport-specific exercises" 6 weeks after surgery and within 3 to 4 months his shoulder will be fully healed.

What makes you think AR is "not physically ready for D1"? Posters on this board were making similar comments regards MM at the beginning of this past season; were you one of those? And, more importantly, how did that pan out for you?

IMO you are distorting why Baker took a redshirt, IMO nothing to do with his readiness to contribute but more in line with the "plan" HC3G and he agreed prior to his arrival on campus. While I agree that Baker was a superior high school athlete IMO at departure from Scott City High School his basketball skills were not comparable to AR's. Whether or not AR can develop as well as Baker is a question that remains to be answered.

Your attempt at hyperbole did not "blaze" over my head, rather I viewed and commented on it as a weak attempt of deflection by you.

Are we going to compare a couple of top-100 guys to the #23 rated player in Arkansas?

Why are you confusing Pogo's comment that freshman should not be expected to contribute to Shocker play? My post was alluding to the fact that two WSU Freshmen contributed to Shocker play this past season.

                  • I always get a kick out of posters who degrade players before they even step foot on campus. It explains a lot about their attitude towards the guys on our roster.

I always get a kick out of posters who acknowledge weaknesses of our current players, but only see strengths in our recruits.

                      • I guess I missed the part where someone said he didn't have any weaknesses.

                            • If AR is our main PG next year it means:

                              1.Dude really is a stud!!
                              Or

                              2. All other options, CF, LS, TT, DS are not getting the job done.

I think the first option is CF, just because I believe LS is a better 2. I think LS needs to play where he is most effective, which, from what Ive read is at the 2. If CF cant get it done DS is our next logical choice as he is a PG at juco.

Another more likely scenario if CF and DS dont get it done, is TT gets another shot, then AR if everything else falls through.

All players need to make improvements for the Shox to be successful, but outside of Shamet, I dont see any of the rest as locked in anywhere at this point. All have potential, but need to really work this offseason.

Are Duke, UK, UNC, Syracuse, KU in bad shape? Because they regularly expect freshmen to come in and contribute.
