Say you are on the committee, WSU is in the low 40s of the S-Curve, and for some reason you are given full freedom to place UNI. Where do you put them?

You seem to be complaining about something they did, when in fact, I bet you would have done the same thing putting UNI on the 11 line and 46 overall. This whole issue is merely the nature of having 32 auto bids scattered throughout D1 and then filling in another 36 starting at the top. At some point you have to have some fairly unequal teams on the same seed lines in the 11-16 range. Heck, using your logic, how dumb is it to have 22-10 Southern University playing 14-19 Holy Cross. Talk about unequal teams on the same seed line!!

However, to expect a team to be perfect through 21 games is asinine. This "WSU isn't allowed to lose ever" crap kinda gets old.
IF we had all the early season losses but didn't blow the games to ISUr and UNI in the regular season we are a solid 7 seed. The boys blew it.

It simply makes the cut line a little less harsh.
While this might be one rationale I would guess ratings is a big one. I imagine a lot more people watch these games than would if they were all 16 seeds fighting it out to get squashed two days later.

        • Another note...Evansville got snubbed by the NIT and is declining any 3rd tier tournament. Sad ending for 2 great players.

                  Exactly.

WSU played their way back into "control your own destiny" in regards to NCAA at-large selection and almost pissed it away.

Blame the committee all you want, but if WSU wins 2/3 of those games they are 6-10 seed.

                  • Interesting forecast from fivethirtyeight. Look at how the first four compares to the percentages for the other rounds. I count us with 22nd best NC odds.

Not perfect, but, after beating UNI on the road by 19, then losing to them at home, and then losing to them a second time in the tourney is really bad. If we had lost to them on the road, then beat them twice, and lost to UE in the finals, we would have had a lot better off with the same record. Add not dropping a 16 point lead in the second half to a 3 point lead in 4 1/2 minutes by getting outscored 14-1 and then losing by 5 to IL St is far from being perfect.

We didn't lose those games because they were good, hard fought games. We played bad. We had some big lopsided wins over the last 10 games, but we also had 4 stinkers, one, fortunately, we won.

Temple lost to 12-20 East Carolina about the same time WSU was losing to ISU and UNI, both who actually, you know, had WINNING RECORDS. Temple actually lost 11 games and finished with a KenPom of 86, but somehow managed a 10 seed and gets to skip Dayton.

Just stop with the "WSU coulda" stuff. Of course they coulda, but they shouldn't have had to. This committee was stupid and deserves all the criticism they receive.

I feel bad for the players...not the school. Players had no choice in the schedule.

                          • I have no problem with being a play in team. In fact, I think the last at large teams should be play in games as opposed to the conference champs. I think those teams earned the right to play on Thursday and Friday. My biggest peeve is the effing teams like Texas Tech that played NOBODY in the OOC and then scraps 6 wins against crap P5 teams, and 3 wins against the rest and magically claim themselves as awesome and NCAA worthy. They suck, it will be proven out this weekend, again. And next year, not a damn thing will change.

Go UNI!! Beat that ***** Shaka Smart, even though, I think he's done a good job this year.

Time to lace it up Shox. We have a great draw, IMO.

                            • I completely disagree as to us being anything better than a 10 even with those wins. The amount of emphasis these guys placed on Top 50 W/L records wouldn't have changed and we would still be penalized.

Don't get me wrong, we shat the bed a bit but I think in reality we were a 10 at best.

I'm still trying to figure out why all of these other metrics are even advertised as being considered?

I think a tournament champ that did not win the regular season should be allowed to be in a play in game. They already got in based on a hot weekend, no need to give them anything more.
