  • Beer sales at Shocker basketball?

I just read this article in the local, Omaha fishwrap. Apparently, this year the NCAA will be selling beer and wine at the College World Series. They will be doing it at the softball tourney, too.

    (Insert drunken Omaha jokes here.)

Anyway, this is apparently part of a pilot program testing beer sales, fan acceptance, along with fan behavior. Read the entire article for context.

From the article, more and more schools are selling beer at sporting events with both monetary success and decreasing alcohol related incidents. The question being, as alcohol sales in college sports appears to be a trend, do you think Wichita State would ever add beer sales at Shocker basketball games, and would you support the decision? If nothing else, it's an interesting discussion.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

They sell it at the baseball games I don't see why they wouldn't at basketball games as well

Yes, please. Although it's gonna be a pain to get up and down in the already cramped quarters of CKA.

This. And even though the renovation improved the situation, the restroom availability is still slightly low, IMO, for 10k beer drinkers.

They sell it at IBA during our one-game-per-year experience there. Why not for every game at CKA?

I wouldn't embibe at basketball games (I'm basically too "thrifty" for arena beer prices), but I don't think it is a bad idea. I do enjoy a brew at baseball when it's hot, though.

I just find the whole thing interesting. The NCAA covers up all beer advertising at championship events, yet now they are exploring the prospects of profiting off of beer sales. I also didn't know that, regardless of rented or owned facilities, beer sales are becoming more and more common at college sporting events. I may be wrong, but my gut tells me that it would work well for basketball, but football is where most of the trouble would be found.

One of the reasons I love the IBA games is having a couple beers. Not sure if I'd spend the $$$ to do that at every home game but it would sure be nice to have the option!

Some our first half performances and opponent's entire game performances would definitely make me consider having "some beers."

I think an event lasting roughly 2 hours, your fine. You have to be on a mission to get your drunk on in that time. Or be a pansy that can't hold your liquor.

So with pretzels being $5 and nachos being $7, I'm gonna put the over/under on beer at CKA being at $20.

Not sure that'd be worth it.

At the Indiana State game Sunday, my wife noted there were ads and timeout sponsors from Bud Light, Prairie Band Casino, and Thunderbird Tactical. Beer, gambling, guns. Feels like NCAA and schools already making $$$ from this, might as well let the crowd enjoy a beer.

as long as they can limit people I think everything is okay.

Maybe 2 beers per person can be purchased? stamp on hand or some wrist braclet?

I want to see how me and @ShockBand: 's section gets with a little liquid courage. They're a rowdy bunch as it is.
