The more I think about it the more I think you guys are the prefect "First Four" team candidate. Many times since that has come into play a team that is similar to yours a questionable paper resume but a team everyone knows has talent gets thrown into the First Four as a prove it to be in type thing. Win your way into the tournament type of deal...

I seldom quote myself, Henry, but here's what I proposed this morning for the Shocks:

"Try this scenario: the Shocks drop to an 11-seed Dayton game against USC (as the committee decides to let them prove themselves now that Fred is back) in a regional where Baylor from the glorious Big 12-2 is the #6, and Utah checks in at #3. Anyone object to that schedule for the first week?"

I know it's three games instead of two, but I'd be delighted to see that setup for the first week, and I'll bet Marshall and the team would, too. Actually, I don't see them dropping quiet that far (as of 6:21 pm, the Bracket Matrix had them at a 9.36 average with 80 in and nine out); but nothing would surprise me, and if they could somehow get that combination, I'd be looking forward to the second weekend already.

It might be crazy to say this, but, regarding seeding, I think there are some who will give UNI consideration over the Shockers. They had Marquis wins and beat us twice near the end of the season. I hope that won't happen---but nothing surprises me anymore.

No chance. WSU has 8 losses. UNI has 12. WSU lost 3 games to MVC foes. UNI lost 7.

By the way, singeril, who is the Marquis of Wins, anyway? I believe "marquee" is the term you're looking for.

And yes, the UNIs did have more big wins than WSU did -- but it's no accident that WSU finished FIVE games ahead of them in the Valley and has much better metrics as well as a better record and even a better RPI, for those who like antiques. They just happen to be a tough matchup for the Shocks, and Jacobson is a good coach and tactician; but riddle me this: would you rank Loyola ahead of the UNIs because of their season sweep over them? Yes, that's right: the same Loyola against whom WSU was 3-0 with only one close game turns out to have been a tough matchup for the UNIs. Things like that happen, but they aren't necessarily a basis for generalization.

I hate that I'm going to be stalking this thread all week. I hate this thread. I HATE IT. Bracketology during the season is just designed to get clicks. You move KU off the 1 line and you get big hits from the KC Market. **** a but in Kentucky? Clicks galore. Give a team like WSU a bump and watch those clicks come in! And in the end, it means nothing. No one looks back at December brackets and rates them. And why should they? The authors hedge by saying that is the bracket is if the tourney were held then. So stupid.

But here I am, waking right into it. Clicking away. Damn it.

I think you're right. I just won't feel better until I see their name on Sunday on an 11 or 12 line.
