Occasionally there is one and the best ones if they were in the bottom eight would still have a chance to win the bottom eight tournament or get an at large bid. I understand the "slippery slope" theory. This is just a thought.

I'm kinda stunned that a WSU fan would also be in favor of killing off the "small guy".
As I mentioned, earned AND PAID their way.

I think there are 32 conferences. Many in that bottom tier are making no effort to be competitive and are only in Div 1 so that they can grab some of the tourney money .

I guess I'd say, "So?" They still paid their NCAA dues; they still won their conf. tourney. Why should they be denied so Texas Tech (sub-500 in B12) can get in?

          • Or worse, K-State, who I've seen as a "bubble" contender? For cripes sake, they are 4-9 in their league!

            • OTOH, gimme K-State in the first round! LOL!

How about Hawaii, Texas Arlington or Arkansas-Little Rock.

What are these "dues" you speak of. The fact is the NCAA makes almost all or their money from the basketball tournament.

I refer to athletic dept costs to be a D1 school in a D1 conference. A discussion on another thread included requirements to be a D1 football school at different levels. That's an investment; there is likewise scholarship requirements, conference requirements, etc. for D1 in various sports. Most schools do NOT make money in their athletic dept; they need conference money, NCAA revenue sharing, etc. Keeping up with D1 status costs money, real time. Really, they would like to share in the TV revenue. So, why would these leagues let their tourney participation go so that K-State can get in?

I can see both sides of it.

If you can't even win 1/3 of your conference games, you have demonstrated you have 0% chance to win the NC. You should not be in the tournament, period!

                          I don't and I smell a P5 lover.

Clearly this shows that Palm is right. Even with 5 more wins, a loss in the MVC Finals would burst WSU's bubble. I mean, really, how does a team currently a mere 20 spots inside the bubble really expect to be able to sustain one more loss and not fall completely to the NIT? Everyone knows a loss for WSU is an automatic 25 spot drop. It's written in the NCAA rule book.

                              • Ken Pomeroy said it best yesterday on the radio:

36 at large spots, teams not eligible that would get 2 spots and another 8-10 teams that will get the autobid but would've got in with an at large anyway. So that's almost 50 teams. He then he couldn't imagine a discussion where we weren't in the top 50 teams even if we lose a game in the MVC tournament.
