Las Vegas paper said the announcers were in Bristol, Ct. which I here I believe the ESPN offices are. Also I was told at the game that there were 25 NBA scouts in the crowd scattered all over the arena.

It happened too many times to pinpoint one backbreaker, but they all felt that way for UNLV coach Dave Rice considering it’s the thing he values above perhaps anything else ...

My wife & I went to the game last night & we also recorded the game on our VCR. After seeing all the fuss about the officiating, I watched the game again this morning & can't understand what all the fuss is about. It's easier to see the little details on TV rather from row 22 at the SE end of the floor. I agree that a few calls were missed, but overall, the ref's got it mostly right IMHO. UNLV really did make 19 TO's to WSU's 9. The TV announcers who we have all seen before typically agreed with the Ref calls most of the time, too. Miles Simon is a former U of Arizona great, so he knows the game well. I don't know the background of the other announcer last night.

That's just patently false. They may not ever intend that to be the case, but you could point to numerous examples across many sports where officials decide a game.

Probably should spend a little less time lifting weights and a little more time shooting and dribbling.
Zach had an air 3 and a clank 3 off the side of the rim. Otherwise, he was extra fine. He is going to be an very fine player for us.

Zach loves to drive and draw contact. He is built like a tight end in the NFL.

Wait, I've got phone calls coming in from Green Bay ... Duke ... and some guy named Karl Hess. Care to revise your statement?

Yup, both Mark Adams and Rich Hollenberg confirmed they were broadcasting remotely. Oddly enough, they will be on-site for the December 31st home game vs Drake .... Odd choice.

It seems like such a strange money saving choice. Still have to get camera and video guys on site. I'd be interested to see the dollars and cents of it.

In reality, when I'm officiating, the fans mean nothing to me.

Trust me, I'm not pissed, I'm used to it. It gets old, and I've tried to educate on here, but I always get flamed for it, so I'm just done. Instead of arguing with fans on here that don't have a clue and trying to educate them and getting nowhere, I'm choosing just to ignore. That way I don't get an unnecessary timeout for saying the wrong thing to an uneducated fan that refused to be educated.

                  I appreciate your response though.
You need not to take it personally. We're going to be biased. I thought the game was called to allow far more contact in general than early in the season, and of course I'm going to pay more attention to that kind of thing when I'm watching Fred or Ron with the ball, than if it's a UNLV guy. Generally, "trying to educate fans" has a way of coming across as condescending, which just makes the reaction far worse.

Its not just the "educate the fans" comments. Its the "If you aren't a ref, you aren't allowed to judge refs" comment. That's just plain dumb and makes you look very conceited.

The only thing I can think of is if it allows them to call multiple games in one night with the same crew. So no travel costs for them, they can call a 6 pm game, then an 8 pm game and a 10 pm west coast game all with the same 2 people. I can see that adding up cost wise quickly. I believe they let some announcers go recently.

I get what you're saying, but someone asked me why I don't try and educate the fans by showing clips and explaining rather than getting pissed off. Hence my response. I have found that most fans can't be educated, and if you feel that trying is being condescending, then ok. That's your choice. I disagree, but it is what it is. I'm moving on, so should everybody else.

I can honestly say that choosing the ignore function for a certain group of people that won't let it go has been a big help thus far. Perhaps others should learn to ignore me if they don't like what I'm saying, rather than responding and adding fuel to the fire.

I'm all about talking Shocker hoops, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to offer my input, good and bad, about officiating. If people want to get into an argument with me about it, then yea, I'm going to react. If people want to ask questions and try and learn, that's fine.

Perhaps I will be better in the future about not educating those that don't want to be educated, but, if you push an officials buttons, they are going to push back.

I will for the sake of everybody on these boards, keep my educating and defending officials to a minimum so that everybody is happy and we can get back to what's really important, the team itself.

The condescending part I'm talking about is the attitude as a whole, eg. coming on a fan forum and openly saying that fans are idiots who can't be educated about refereeing.

                                Exhibit B:
Perhaps I will be better in the future about not educating those that don't want to be educated
Believe it or not, I really do understand your perspective on this as well. I've visited plenty of other forums where people make a lot of really bad assumptions about software engineers, and occasionally I'll want to step in and offer a counter opinion.
