HCGM couldn't call timeout in that situation anymore, you're right, but any of the 5 Shocker players on the court could have. Unless of course, they were told not to? Who knows.

A guy like Zimmerman, plus a little more health team wide, is the difference between this being a 12 seed team in March 2016 vs a 1-2 seeded Shocker team.

Zimmerman isn't showing up between now and then. I'm still hopeful that health will and that the Shox can still be a single digit seed. Good things are still very possible this year, although I'm not so sure a national championship looks as possible as it might have 2 months ago.

So, you have douchy radio guys. You had UNLV players talking all game. You had UNLV fans behind the bench becoming so agitated that the sheriff's department had to get involved. And then you had the parade of douche fans over here whining over everything and listing every excuse in the book.

Is there a douchier program out there? Wow.
And nearly all (with the exception of 1 or 2) fans I've read afterwords have been extremely trashy. I have no desire to give their program the honor of playing us again. They are going to fall apart after this.

It'll probably be about conference tournament time for us to evaluate if this is a NC caliber team again. I think a lot of that hinges on Grady and Shamet's possible return, paired with if any of the Sophomore/Freshmen make big strides in consistency and productivity. If the Shox could get McDuffie/Shaq/Kelly to become everyday guys in games, it would give the Shox a solid 7-8 man rotation of solid production. We have to have more than 3-4 guys a game be the difference makers for a NC.

          • I thought Shaq had a good start last night, he got on the floor for a loose ball and saved an offense rebound, but didn't really do much after that, other than a nice dime. The guy that continues to impress me is Zach Brown. He had a great and one last night. I don't recall Kelly or McDuffie doing anything noteworthy.

But I have full confidence that HCGM will get it all figured out.

I didnt record the game so I cant go back and watch it. At first thought it looked like a scrum with a UNLV player but I saw Fred on him.

Generally I like rooting for non-P5 programs (except Creighton), but I don't think that I can ever cheer for UNLV. After what I've seen the past few days and especially last night I can't stand their fan base. Whiners, cry babies, and entitlement minded. I guess they're still basking in the glory of that 90-91 team and are clearly delusional.

Edit: I will have to secretly root for them during this season for the RPI benefit to us. But it is begrudgingly.

                          • Thoughts from Sec 120:

                            - Man, UNLV was athletic, but they literally played out-of-control all night.
                            - @ShockBand: and I did, in fact, go shoot free throws after the game.
                            - Who'da thunk the impact of Conner Frankamp's first game at WSU was a good defensive effort and two key free throws?
                            - I appreciate the bravado of the UNLV fans in attendance - we want our fans to be loud at other places too - but there are lines you don't cross, and they crossed them.
                            - Evan. F***ing. Wessel.
                            - I'm happy for the relatively light schedule for the next couple of weeks after the Utah game to give Fred some more time to work out that hamstring and get back into shape. I don't think the leg was gimpy so much as he was a bit out of game shape because he's had to rest it so much. Barring catastrophe, he should be completely back to normal by the conference schedule.
                            - The previous statement acknowledges that a 17/4/4 outing is somehow a sub-optimal performance from Fred, which is just ludicrous. I'll say it again, the man will be playing on Christmas Day eventually.
                            - Dear Shaq and Rauno: GO STRAIGHT UP WITH THE BALL!!! DON'T PUT IT ON THE *$@&$@ING FLOOR!!
                            - Anyone know what had Fred so steamed at the end of the game?
                            - The guy who shouted "Go back to your hookers and blow!" near the end of the game was NOT me.

                              • Also, I have to pose the question: Have we actually gained enough cache as a program that we are going to start getting the John Higgins benefit whistle treatment? I'm not sure I agree with the assessment that the whistles favored us, because best as I could tell, the whistles were swallowed for much of the night.
